Found out we are having a little girl, really struggling to love any names but mentioned India yesterday and other half likes it too. Rare for us to agree! He's worried our family won't like it though. Obviously it's not up to them anyway but what do you think of the name?

Here's our shortlist:
India Grace
Seren Grace
Evie Grace

India was born on 15 th August 1947

Always thought India was such a pretty name. In 15 years only ever taught 1 and she was lovely.

India is getting very popular amongst people I know (they must all be colonisers ) which would put me off personally.

Can’t shake the connection with India Willoughby, sorry.

But if you like it, use it.

I actually really like the name India. It's pretty. But I can't put it on my name list as I have never been there. What if I hate India when and if I ever visit?! If you have been to India and love it or have a lovely story (maybe you met your husband there) it's a good choice.

Evie I like - but I would go for Ivy instead. I know that's a different name but I think it's prettier

I love the name India. The India I know is mixed race Indian and English.

My favourite on your list is the name Seren though. Beautiful name.

Not keen on any of those. Whether the name India was a person’s name before a country’s, how many people actually know that?

India Knight is half Indian *@BinkyBoinky* . I think she changed it to reflect her heritage.

I don't love it. All the India's I know in my generation (mid 30s) are a bit Sloaney and pronounce it Ind-yaaaah. I think their parents went on too many gap years.

But Grace and Evie are massively overused at the moment. It’s the go to name that every girl has, dull dull. Grace as a middle name is the Louise of the 80s.

India is beautiful! I do prefer Indie or Indiana though. I also like Evie but it has become so popular. Not a fan of Seren, sorry.

As an independent republic yes, but the British East India company weren’t time-travelling forward from the late eighteenth century.

I think using a country‘s name for a child is bizarre, and yes, entitled and neo-colonial. If you wouldn’t call your child Nigeria, Serbia or Russia, don’t call her India.
