No, have a friend who has 2 boys with those names.

SerenaSandwich · 20/08/2020 19:25

No I don't think they're too similar

RedCatBlueCat · 20/08/2020 19:26

I think they are a great combination.

DramaAlpaca · 20/08/2020 19:27

Of course they are too similar, they are essentially the same name.

Jacob is the Latin form of James.

NailsNeedDoing · 20/08/2020 19:28

Personally, I think they are too similar.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/08/2020 19:31

Too similar for me.

riotlady · 20/08/2020 19:32

Yes they’re too similar, they’re variations of the same name. Hence why the supporters of James II were known as Jacobites

jadealisha · 20/08/2020 19:32

A little similar but not greatly. Our youngest daughters are called Ava and Ariana, wish we hadn't though lol ours are way too similar.

sycamore54321 · 20/08/2020 19:33

Yes. Too similar for me if they are the only two children. Possibly ok if Jacob also has Maria, Paul and Edward as siblings and James comes right at the end. But as a pair, definitely not.

seriousandloyal · 20/08/2020 19:34

I would say too similar sorry OP. Both are lovely though.

TenThousandSpoons · 20/08/2020 19:36

Yes too similar. You would forever be muddling them up.

user32723 · 20/08/2020 19:36

Too similar for me

NannyR · 20/08/2020 19:37

I agree, they are variations on the same name, sort of like calling brothers Peter and Pierre.

meow1989 · 20/08/2020 19:37

Theure quite similar. And both lend themselves to being shortened to Jay (or J), so probably too close for me.

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 20/08/2020 19:39

I know a Jacob with a brother called Jack which is far too similar imo. Jacob and James I don’t think is as bad but I probably wouldn’t choose them although individually they’re great names

purplejungle · 20/08/2020 19:49

Thanks all!

howlathebees · 20/08/2020 19:49

They’re fine :)

GirlCalledJames · 20/08/2020 19:52

People will assume that you didn’t know they were forms of the same name.

HarrietM87 · 20/08/2020 20:02

Yes of course they’re too similar.

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 20/08/2020 20:17

They're the same name!! Jacob is the Latin form of James - hence why the James era is Jacobean!!

Firebird83 · 20/08/2020 20:54

Yes, they’re the same name!

daisypond · 20/08/2020 21:26

Yes, they’re exactly the same name but in different languages.

GirlCalledJames · 20/08/2020 22:27

On the other hand if you have another boy later you could call him Diego.

MikeUniformMike · 20/08/2020 22:49

Too similar, but if you don't mind you could still use them

4kidmom · 21/08/2020 01:56

Not too similar to me. Great names
