What do you think of this for a baby?

I love it was high on my list.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 19/08/2020 18:54

Love it but DH has an ex called Martha so wasn't allowed it!

DramaAlpaca · 19/08/2020 18:57

I'm with @daisypond. Sorry to all the Martha-loving posters out there and mums of Marthas, but I think it's dowdy and dreary too. It makes me think of housemaids, to be honest.

anditgoeson · 19/08/2020 19:07

Love it!

user1493494961 · 19/08/2020 19:15

It's a lovely name.

legalseagull · 19/08/2020 19:19

Love!

ZebraKid71 · 19/08/2020 19:20

The handmaid's tale ruined it for me. I quite like it apart from that. I know of quite a few under 3 but other than that I've only ever known one who would be 30 now.

AgeLikeWine · 19/08/2020 19:20

Excellent name Smile.

Mediaevalmiss · 19/08/2020 19:23

I love it.

Unseeliequeen · 19/08/2020 19:27

Meh

PenguinBarnotBird · 19/08/2020 19:27

Gorgeous

alexdgr8 · 19/08/2020 19:30

no sorry.
sounds like a scullery maid.
martha and mary in the bible.
while mary sat at the feet of jesus listening to his words, martha was busy doing the washing up.
the implication being that mary had chosen the better part. there will always be housework to do, but the things of the spirit are more important.
this is why the name is associated with domestic drudgery.

PlumsInTheIcebox · 19/08/2020 19:57

Oh phew. I thought it was all looking too popular. Thankfully the people who consider it dowdy are also the reason why Martha will never go top ten.

Incidentally there is an excellent French legend about St Martha taming a dragon.

Dededa · 19/08/2020 19:58

I love it, was high on my list.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 19/08/2020 20:21

Love it. I have a 7 year old Martha & she’s an absolute joy!

iguanadonna · 19/08/2020 20:24

Sweet name, but also strong enough to grow up into

Cyclewidow46 · 19/08/2020 20:42

I love it!

rollonoctober · 19/08/2020 20:48

I really like it - it is popular round here though, DS who is 7 has 2 in his class and there are at least 2 others in the school.

toastmeahotcrossbun · 19/08/2020 23:12

Great name, really love it

Tillygetsit · 20/08/2020 23:04

Gorgeous.

sibbys · 21/08/2020 07:38

I really love it too! My partner has always said no to Martha and is now opening up to it! Due in October so there is still time! Daffodil

@rollonoctober that's interesting. The numbers of Martha's was higher a few years ago. It's never reached the top 60 though. Numbers are now falling each and every year for the past few years so it's definitely a good name to pick popularity wise as it's on a very clear downward trajectory now.

Love it!

sweetnosugar · 21/08/2020 11:15

I love it, was on my baby name list. 😍
So was Marnie which I equally adore.

Cosmos45 · 21/08/2020 11:16

Love it. I have two friends with little girls called Martha.

Blingismything · 21/08/2020 11:19

I love it and know a few.
