Last minute name doubts

Expecting DC2 in a week and having doubts about the name I have agreed with my DH. I have had quite a tough pregnancy and we chose it quite early on, so I don’t know if it’s just taken on those associations.

I’m now leaning towards a name I’ve always loved instead. DH is reluctant to change it.

Any advice on this much appreciated.

I think assuming that Delilah by Tom Jones won’t figure in years to come is a mistake. Its not a reason to avoid the name but go into it with your eyes open!

Delilah - No. It's probably more popular than you think, and Lila and Lilah are popular too. The biblical association isn't good. Jemima might be an alternative.
Willow - Ok but a bit crap for a chunky girl or woman.
Jasmine - I really like it. Yasmin could be an alternative.

Love love Delilah and Willow. Don't really like jasmine!

Flappingflamingo · 18/08/2020 10:57

Delilah willow sounds lovely

DramaAlpaca · 18/08/2020 12:32

I love Delilah, but sadly the song would make it unusable for me.

I don't like Willow much. Someone upthread said it's classic, it's really not. It's very of the moment and therefore probably a bit faddy. It's going to date badly, I think. I also think it only really suits the tall, willowy types.

I like Jasmine very much, but it's a bit dated. Very pretty name, though.

Whatsyourflava · 18/08/2020 13:58

Which is your favourite @kellybean18

Sausagedog1 · 18/08/2020 14:52

Jasmine is my favourite, it's beautiful. I especially imagine it on a darker haired girl. I do like Willow but I think it's very 'now' and trendy.
Delilah is completely different in style. I think it's nice but not something I would ever choose myself, especially with the song.

I just don’t understand the recent popularity of Delilah. Traditionally a Delilah is a deceitful, treacherous woman — which is probably why the lyricist used the name in the Tom Jones song.
Delia is similar but with one up the distasteful connotation.
There’s a song about Delia as well but that’s a classic and has a beautiful melody

Spidey66 · 18/08/2020 22:41

I like (in no order) Willow and Jasmine from your list. Not mad on Delilah, and associate it with the song, which is a damn fine song but when all's said and done, is about domestic violence.

FizzyGreenWater · 20/08/2020 09:57

That's quite a varied list, they're basically all pretty good though!

I wouldn't choose Delilah as I would hate the short form Del/Della. It's also a bit marmite I suppose. Alternatives? - how about Dorothy, Tabitha? Like Dotty!

Willow - I like this, it's pretty popular and 'of the moment' though and I think would definitely date. Not in a bad way though. A nice name.

Jasmine - like this a lot, I don't see how it's particularly dated - I know of a couple and they are all solidly middle-class with very trad sibling names, so I associate it there.

My least fave would be Delilah.

PlantPotting · 20/08/2020 11:02

Love all 3 names. Favourite is Delilah

4kidmom · 21/08/2020 04:17

It’s a toss up between Willow and Jasmine for me. Both are pretty. Delilah is pretty sounding, but I personally wouldn’t use it because I just think of the biblical Delilah.

My friend told me she went through this. Like a month before her DS was born she had a wobble about the name, she said when he was born the first thing she thought was 'Hello name' and it was the name she thought she didnt like anymore. It really suited him. My other friend had a name picked the start of her pregnancy and when he was born she changed her mind! She thought oh.. you dont look an a name at all!! So she changed and he really suits his name now. Last one, u went to school with someone calle Roseanne who suited her name, she was actually born and they called her something else but changed their mind before they did the birth certificate. She said she hated their original choice so was happy they changed it!! You have to go with your gut, All of your favourites are beautiful they would suit any little girl. :) if your having a wobble, I would wait. I'm thinking of doing that if my DC due in October is a boy... I have no idea! But OH loves a few names.. I'll have to wait to see. And my girl name choice really splits a crowd Haha so I might ending changing that if I dont feel like it suits her.
