Opinions on the name?
I've loved Evangeline for a long time but is it a bit too much? It's a very long name and in a way I like that because there's different opinions for nicknames (Eve, Evie, Eva, Liney, Lina) but with a long name she's unlikely to be called by her full name very often. She may become another one of the Evie's and I do like names like that but it's quite popular at the moment

I love it. I'm normally one for shorter names - Eira, Mari, Alys, Rosa, Lyra, Juliet etc. I'm not a big fan of longer names generally, although this is partly because they tend to be feminine forms of male names.

However, there's just something about Evangeline that I love. Although it's long and pretty it doesn't feel overly frilly.

I wouldn't assume someone who used the name was religious (I love it and am not religious although DH is).

I have an Evangeline but it ends up being shortened to Evy- if that bothers you.

LiBan · 15/08/2020 14:15

I think it's too long. I don't like the VANGE sound in the middle which is where the emphasis falls.

Eva is lovely. Lena is lovely.

I would go for Eve Angela or Eve Angeline which lends itself to the same nicknames but avoids have one really long name that will never be used no doubt!

Evangeline is one of my guilty pleasure names. The complete opposite of my usual style (which I'd say is "short and clunky"), I'd never actually use it, but I just love it. One of those long, clearly feminine names that still feels strong and not the least bit frilly.

I like the nn Lina, as I agree Evie is overused.

GoshHashana · 15/08/2020 22:42

It's a bit close to Vaginal.

Ellmau · 15/08/2020 23:00

It's lovely.

Yu could use Van/Vannie as another nn option.

Icicle works song

sunyla · 16/08/2020 12:34

One of my favourite names! It's beautiful.

LunaLoveFood · 16/08/2020 12:44

I love it, it was the name of DC's swimming teachers doll that she used to demonstrate with (she used the full name when referring to her) sounds odd writing it down but it was really sweet.

MikeUniformMike · 16/08/2020 15:46

Eve, Evie, Eva, Liney, Lina - of those I only see Evie as being a natural nn.

I'm not keen on Evangeline or your nns, apart from Eve and Evie, both of which are lovely.

She is likely to be one of many Eva, Eve, Evie, Ava, Edie, Evelyn.... in her age group.

willotree · 16/08/2020 21:45

I suppose if there are a lot of Evie's in her class she can always go by Evangeline to make it less confusing which is my main concern about going by a popular name

I’m so sorry but it makes me think of the word Vaj which my friends use as slang for vagina because the stress falls on the Vange part Blush

I love Genevieve though as pps suggested.

MikeUniformMike · 17/08/2020 19:08

It does seem a bit similar to Genevieve. Don't like that either. Both names seem cumbersome.

I hear the vange bit too.

LioneIRichTea · 17/08/2020 19:13

I love it! I think of Evangeline Lilly! So many nice shortened versions too!

LioneIRichTea · 17/08/2020 19:15

Oops...

Lina, Eva, Evan, Evie

iamme21 · 17/08/2020 19:21

Icicle Works!

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 17/08/2020 19:29

I love it (and Genevieve) - one of my all time favourite names.

It makes me think of House of Elliot and stylish Art Deco fashion rather than religion.
