Petra?

I have a Juno and an Annie (Anoushka on the BC) and expecting another girl.

Really struggling!

DH has suggested Petra. And I think I like it.

But it feels very unusual, so interested to hear opinions.

What do you think??

I've only ever met one Petra, way back in the 70's.
I like it, and it goes really well with your other names.
Ignore about the Blue Peter dog too, not really relevant any more!

MikeUniformMike · 14/08/2020 13:48

How about Petriana or Petronella or Petrienne

nn Ria, Roni or Tree.

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/08/2020 13:52

@Lobsterquadrille2

I think it's lovely. I've heard both pronunciations.

I suggested it on a thread recently where the DS was called Shepherd, so possibly nicknamed Shep.

"Get down Shep!" I loved John Noakes, a real action man.
Beamur · 14/08/2020 13:52

I think it fits really well with your other names.
It's not common, I only know one adult with this name.
It's a great name, strong but individual.

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/08/2020 13:53

I don't think anyone is dismissing the name because of the dog, it's just what springs to mind for people of a certain age. It's a nice name.

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/08/2020 13:55

I once had to sort out a dispute in my classroom when a boy told a girl she had a dog's name - Bailey! Who would have thought of that? Children will make their own connections that we have no idea of.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 14/08/2020 13:56

Tree? Grin

Kokeshi123 · 14/08/2020 14:05

I want to like it, but I can't get rid of the "petrol" association.

Peta looks prettier but it also sounds indistinguishable from Peter in standard-British English accents.

Perdita? Paloma?

LaTomatina · 14/08/2020 14:17

I think Petra is a lovely name. I know lots. It's really common where I am. Mostly in their 30s or 40s. It's pronounced Paytra here (letter e is always said like the e on cafe).

MikeUniformMike · 14/08/2020 14:28

I was only joking @Ihopeyourcakeisshit.

Peta sounds exactly like Peter, and is a bit of a "we really wanted a boy" names.

Pietra is nice too, but might be dated.

lottiegarbanzo · 14/08/2020 14:28

Bailey is clearly a dog's name, cat's name (ref. Bill Bailey in 'The Naming of Cats'), surname, or reference to an alcoholic drink, so that child was not wrong!

Petronella would give you Nell, which is nice but I like the simplicity of Petra.

Otherwise, given Juno, I might go further down the Roman / Greek mythological route, with something like Artemis, Phoebe, Hebe, Clio, Calliope (Callie) or Cornelia (Connie).

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/08/2020 14:33

Phoebe is fairly common now.

Hebe makes me think heeby jeebies but maybe that's just me.

Artemis was an after shave or perfume but probably only for old people like me.

mylittleavalon · 14/08/2020 14:49

Ha! @lottiegarbanzo didn't even twig I was adding to the dog theme with Perdita Grin just always think of my friend!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 14/08/2020 15:54

@MikeUniformMike I was only joking
You never bloody know with this place Grin

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 14/08/2020 15:55

@CaptainMyCaptain Wasn't that Aramis?

MikeUniformMike · 14/08/2020 16:09

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit, there are definitely trends on here.
I'm sure if I started a thread asking 'Emily or Lily?' someone would suggest Emiliana (nn Emmie or Milly) and Liliana (nn Lilli or Lia).
Grin

Ah yes, you are right.

Tootletum · 14/08/2020 16:37

I am not a fan. What about Astrid?

PoodleMoth · 14/08/2020 20:32

Love it! And your other girls' names!

thatplaceinjordan · 15/08/2020 19:54

SheWranglesRugRats · 17/08/2020 13:03
