Micah Ray?

Thoughts please? We have had a lot of support from our Dads Raymond & Michael and would like to honour them but as a variation of their names.

PS: We don’t like Raymond or Michael as first names!

Ray, a diminutive of Raymond, is unisex? Confused

Are you American?

VenusClapTrap · 09/08/2020 22:40

I used to work with a female Ray. She was British.

GinWithRosie · 11/08/2020 11:17

@SemperIdem Ray/Rae is widely used for girls now, especially as a middle name. My close friend is first name 'Rae' (she's actually Rachael but has always been known as Rae). You'd only know the spelling though if you saw it in written form...it often gets misspelled and she gets 'Ray'. I also have a niece Rayne who goes by Ray 🤷‍♀️

GinWithRosie · 11/08/2020 11:22

Also...why would she be American? Ray/Rae is hardly unusual 😂

SemperIdem · 11/08/2020 13:34

I’m aware that Ray/Rae is used for girls, however not so communal that people would see “Ray” written down and not assume the person was male. Hence not unisex.

Lots of “Male” names have fully crossed over in America though, which is why I asked.

SemperIdem · 11/08/2020 13:36

*commonly

DipSwimSwoosh · 12/08/2020 23:35

Sounds like Micra Ray, a name for some home hair removal system or something.

MinnieJackson · 14/08/2020 09:33

I like it!

JemimaTiggywinkle · 14/08/2020 12:50

Micah-ray does sound a little bit like an adorable small child saying “microwave” (sorry).

Also, and I speak as someone who has an uncommon name, please consider the inconvenience that your child will face having to spell out their name to everyone they meet

Ladypuggerz · 14/08/2020 13:01

It was once explained to me from the parent of a female "Micah" that the male version is pronounced "Mike-ah" and the female version is pronounced "Meek-ah". Whether that is true or not, I have no idea! This came up in conversation because people kept mispronouncing her name!

Despite my anecodote, I like "Micah Ray" and the reasoning behind it! Smile

Cado12 · 27/09/2020 00:36

Hi all,
Thanks for your opinions. It would have been a boy’s name and not hyphenated Micah as first name like the footballer Micah Richards) & Ray as a middle name.
We will brainstorm again!

Pronounced Mike-Ah by the way!

I thought it was nice until someone said it sounds like microwave! Micah is a nice name though, would Micah Raymond work instead?

motherofdxughters · 27/09/2020 02:16

Micah Ray is decent.

notangelinajolie · 27/09/2020 02:18

I was going to ask boy or girl but see you have now replied to say boy. I know a femail Ray and a femail Michael so although typically boys names I'm not agreeing that they exclusively boys names. I also went to school with a girl called Peter who most definitely was femail - everyone called her Pink though Confused

OP use your names, you have put much thought into them and your reason behind your choice is lovely Flowers
.

MercyBodle · 27/09/2020 03:00

It's okay but just not my taste at all. I'm another who much prefer Michael and Raymond.

Auto · 27/09/2020 03:45

I like Micah Ray.

Antonin · 28/09/2020 14:46

I went an adult Mica — pronounced the same as Micah — a stone along the lines of Jasper , ruby etc.
Also with Luca very popular atm people are used to boys names with an A ending.
Whichever way it’s spelt I like it.
Not so keen on Ray but it’s ok as a second name.
Do Tell us what you decide

CaptainInsensible · 28/09/2020 14:51

Michael is a lovely name

perfumeistooexpensive · 28/09/2020 15:16

Michael Raymond and call him Micah. It gives him a choice as an adult. He might hate Micah because it can be Mee Car or Mike Ah.

MikeUniformMike · 28/09/2020 21:15

Michael is so much nicer than Micah.

ReeseWitherfork · 28/09/2020 21:19

I don’t generally like those kind of biblical names (Malachi, Jonah etc) but there’s something about Micah that appeals. It’s got a nice ring to it. And a thumbs up as Ray for a middle name. A yes from me!
