Really struggling with boys names

Bettie2192 · 26/07/2020 18:23

There’s loads of girls names I love but hardly any boys names. We’ve got a few in mind that we like, but there’s none i’m crazy about or think yes that is definitely the one.
Top of the list at the moment is Henry, I also like Charlie and Jacob but husband isn’t overly keen.
There’s also some more ‘out there’ names we really like but I just don’t think we can get away with them.
I feel like I hate most boys names! I don’t want to pick one just because it’s ok and I don’t hate it 😂

The names we like that are more out there are either surname-type names or are quite American-y.
Carson
Hudson
Wyatt (genuinely love Wyatt but our surname starts with W and the two together just don’t sound good at all, which is a shame)
Chase
River
Felix
Bryce
Cooper

What are people’s thoughts on those?

I tend to think the American style names, usually surname esque come across very chavvy when used in the U.K.
Jacob is nice! Similar names are: Joshua, Benjamin, Nicholas etc
Henry, Charlie are very fashionable, the old man name revival...Arthur, Harry, Sid too

Out of interest what kind of girl names did you
Like, might help narrow down a type

Bettie2192 · 26/07/2020 18:44

@OnlyFoolsnMothers I do agree with you tbf, even though I personally love the names, it feels like we can’t get away with any of them in the Midlands lol.
For girls I go in the opposite style and prefer more traditional names, but I feel like those kind of old fashioned names for boys (eg Alfie, Archie, Arthur, Freddie etc) are getting a bit too popular and it puts me off them. Henry is the only one I like and I don’t think that’s one of the most common ones, although it is obviously quite traditional.
I really like Jacob and the shorter version Jake is cute too but I can’t convince my OH I don’t think!

How about:Bradley, Kurt, Tate- Americanish

Bettie2192 · 26/07/2020 18:52

@clpsmum thank you! I just said to my OH, the more I think about Hudson the more I love it. Plus Hud for short sounds cool.
I would never have thought my OH would like any of these non-traditional names, he’s really surprised me with his taste in names lol

@Ricekrispie22 Blake is quite cool I like that, I kinda like Dexter but I’d have to let it grow on me a bit more

Bettie2192 · 26/07/2020 19:24

@CeibaTree unfortunately I know a kid called Rowan and he puts me off the name, otherwise I would like it 😆

Love the suggestion above of Oakley.

Chester?

Bettie2192 · 27/07/2020 10:51

@Fromthebirdsnest Max and Jack are great names, I love Sebastian and Seb for short sounds great but I just don’t think I can get away with the name Sebastian 😔 really like Ted/Teddy as well but it’s the name of my parents dog unfortunately 😂 maybe as a middle name as a tribute to our beloved family pet lol

OP posts:
Bettie2192 · 27/07/2020 10:52

@ChristmasCarcass Miles is really nice but I don’t think it goes with our surname as it ends in an ‘s’ as well and sounds a bit rhyme-y

OP posts:
Bettie2192 · 27/07/2020 10:54

@GoldenPlover used to like Chester but gone off it :/ not sure how I feel about Oakley either, it’s a cool name just not one for me I don’t think

OP posts:
Bettie2192 · 27/07/2020 10:55

I’ve thought about it a lot since yesterday and I’m really into Hudson Cooper now, but open to suggestions on other middle names to go with Hudson
