Xander, too posh sounding? Or OK?

We had our son a week ago and made the mistake of not naming him when in hospital. We can't decide between Jack and Xander. Worried Jack is too popular and he could be one of several at school, but that Xander sounds too posh? Any thoughts? We have totally over thought this now! Thanks

I don't hear Xander as posh, more American (which I know it's not).

It doesn't sound remotely posh. And not naming your baby in hospital is no big deal. We didn't finally choose until we were literally walking to the registrar's office when DS was about eight weeks.

I don't see Xander as too posh, I see it as unusual, a bit mystical sounding. I love it! I love the idea of having an X as an initial too.

Makes me think of Xander from Buffy.

Another voice for it's not posh; it sounds American. Alexander sounds more refined and you can use Xander as a nickname.

Xander posh? No... I would call him Alexander and use Xander as a nickname.

Where I live, Xander is most definitely not posh.

Alexander is lovely, and gives you/him the choice of Xander or Alex.

Also, if you reframe the “too posh” question as “will be people think i’m getting above my lowly station in life?” You’ll realise that it isn’t something you want to worry about anyway

Mistake not to name him when still on hospital just because I'm so shattered now from days with newborn my decision making ability very low ;). And making me anxious not to have named him :).

Alexander is a great name. I think Xander has become the opposite of posh, but he can have Alex as a back up name.

I thinkof Xander as slightly posh, but better that than the other direction! Alexander lets you call him Xander, which I think is lovely, but he can be Al or Alex if he wants.

It's only posh if the person is (Xander Armstrong) or isn't (the one in Buffy). I think it would fit quite well in any circles

We have an Alexander called Xander. We are very happy with it but be aware that everyone will call him Alex despite being told otherwise! And he himself prefers the full Alexander. Still love it though :)
