Thoughts on Sabre??

My DH really likes the name Sabrina but I'm not a fan. Mainly because she's probably going to be blonde (like me, DH and the kids) which sounds a little familiar- Sabrina the teenage witch!😂 we discussed this and he suggested Sabina, which I was unsure of, or Sabre witch (pun intended) I like. Any thoughts??

My first thought was printers that burst into flames!

I like Sabeena though.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 22/07/2020 13:22

I don’t like Sabre at all. It immediately reminds me of those awful American daytime soaps my gran used to love where all the characters had to have these weird “strong” sounding names like Storm, Thorne, Hunter, Ridge etc. Sorry, I just think it’s an awful idea for a name!

feesh · 22/07/2020 13:24

Fucking hell

IllustriousToad · 22/07/2020 13:24

Reminds me of an episode of the American Office where they are taken over by w company called Sabre and sing a song about it... so no, definitely not a good name for a child! A dog, maybe?

Bbq1 · 22/07/2020 13:27

Ugh, no way.

tillytoodles1 · 22/07/2020 13:31

No

back2good · 22/07/2020 13:32

Please don't.

ConiferGate · 22/07/2020 13:32

Awful

Muppetry76 · 22/07/2020 13:37

Awful. I'm doing nursery transition at the moment, giving a kid that name is going to seriously make for some pre-judgement from parents/friends/teachers. Sounds violent. I'm not one for frilly girly names for girls and rugged masculine names for boys but Sabre is really horrible.

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 22/07/2020 13:52

Reminds me of Sabre the Alsatian dog in the Adrian Mole books

Ingridla · 22/07/2020 13:52

For a horse, yes.

AramintaPepperminta · 22/07/2020 14:06

How many threads does one person need?

averylongtimeago · 22/07/2020 16:24

Sabrina is the goddess of the River Severn, not just a silly 40 year old tv show.

Sabre is a dogs name, imho

Ellmau · 22/07/2020 16:32

Sabrina or Sabina, fine. Or Serena?

Sabre, no.

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 22/07/2020 16:34

Are you Bert Baxter?

SpeedofaSloth · 22/07/2020 16:34

Sabrina is fine.
Sabre is a great big snarling dog straining at a leash.

ProfMcGonigle · 22/07/2020 16:44

@MrsCrosbyNRTB

Are you Bert Baxter?
😂😂 Ah, brings back memories
LesLavandes · 22/07/2020 16:49

Err. No

Upsydaisyy · 22/07/2020 17:41

Sabre is the name of an international flight system used by travel agents and airlines. I’d avoid!

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 22/07/2020 18:03

I also immediately think of extinct tigers and Star Wars weapons. It's a no from me

daisypond · 22/07/2020 18:04

No.
Call her Sabrina. It’s nice. I can’t see why being blonde had anything to do with it.

PocketBears · 22/07/2020 18:32

Not too bad, but I prefer Fang.

For the Sabrina part, you could also try:

Sabbath
Sabotage (Sabotage Sabre sounds rocking)
Safflower
Sapphire
Sagacity
Samadhi
Satiny
Santolina

celestebellman · 22/07/2020 19:43

Sabre will always be the Alsatian dog in the Adrian Mole books.
Sabrina is quite nice.

AuntieStella · 22/07/2020 19:53

Sabre - hmm sabreurs are fast, but a bit dim

Disfordarkchocolate · 22/07/2020 19:56

Sabrina is lovely, at my age I think of Charlie's Angels instead of a teenage witch.

Sabre sounds like something you call a dog, or a boy you expect to become a legendary swordsman.
