Penny or Edie?

Penelope not an option. Love Edith too but would call her Edie so figure it should be Edie if we are going for that, plus not keen on Edith with chosen middle (family) name Elizabeth. Any thoughts/other suggestions most welcome. Thanks.

Penny. I think our daughter on the way will be Penny (full name). I don't love any girl names particularly - except for the ones I can't use because my partner dislikes them (Alice, Martha and Ruth).

Our list right now is:
Penny
Indie
Daisy
Evie

Penelope is nice.

A Penny is a 1 pence coin.

Love Penelope and Edith but not a fan of a nn on the birth certificate.

If you like the style of those but would consider something that is considered a "full name" on its own, what about:

Molly
Poppy
Daisy

... all of which sound great with Elizabeth, too.

I wouldn't use Penny or Edie on a birth certificate but think they're both great nicknames.

I think Edith Elizabeth sounds fine, especially when said with a surname.

Maybe you would like:
Emily or Emmeline (Emmie)
Ellen or Eleanor (Ellie)
Olivia (Libby)
Catherine/Katherine (Katie)
Lucy
Or bump Elizabeth to first name (Lizzie, Libby, Betsy).

Edie looks like a short form for Edward or Edwin. It doesn't look feminine to me.

sweetnosugar · 22/07/2020 10:17

They are fine as a stand alone name..
So many people on here go on about diminutives not being suitable as a stand alone name but they really are in the real life!
Personally preference, not a huge fan of Penny. I do however love Polly, Thea too!

It's also a lucky penny.

worstwitch18 · 22/07/2020 11:30

When I wrote Olivia I meant the nickname Livvy not Libby.

Whatsyourflava · 22/07/2020 11:36

@Namechange8471 I mentioned Jemima because I love it. Hope that helps.

Whatsyourflava · 22/07/2020 11:38

How about

Greta
Martha
Aubrey
Nina
Willa
Margaret /Maggie/Peggy
Clementine/Clemmie
Pearl
Delilah
Roxanne/Roxanna/Roseanne
Ottilie /Ottie
Cora
Eliza
Liberty
Winter
Jemima
Holly
Cleo
Mabel
Peggy rather than Penny
Margot
Wren

Edie is a lovely, quirky unusual name. I can imagine a girl with lots of personality. Penny is so common and ordinary in comparison.

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/07/2020 12:13

Love penny and Edie 😊

Edie really isn’t unusual or at all quirky.

Grufallosfriends · 22/07/2020 17:41

I don't like Edie at all. It looks like a short form for Edward. Nothing quirky or lovely about it imo.

MikeUniformMike · 22/07/2020 19:54

Edie - similar to ED -erectile dysfunction or eating disorder

BobFleming · 22/07/2020 19:55

Not keen on Penny at all.

Todaywewilldobetter · 22/07/2020 19:56

Both lovely names.

Ps. It's not a nickname if it's on your birth certificate; it's just your name!
