Rory or Miles?

DS is due very soon and we are still torn between Rory and Miles. What are your thoughts?

Also wondering if it will become clear what his name is when we finally meet him? Or is that wishful thinking?

I like both but R names are very popular right now. Between a friend and me Rory is Wowy or Vovy so I wouldn't use it.

I much prefer Miles (secret crush on Miles in This Life www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2020/feb/04/people-say-its-the-reason-they-became-a-lawyer-the-stars-of-this-life-on-their-era-defining-show )

Rorys are ten a penny now. I cannot understand its sudden popularity. The people I know who have recently named their sons Rory (several) seem to think they’ve made a rather wild and unusual choice, despite the statistics showing it’s now a very commonplace name. I agree with PPs that there are many people who would struggle with pronunciation, and it would be awful if your son turned out to be one of them. War-wee.

I quite like Miles. Established, but unusual.

Rory is my brothers name. But he ended up hating it when we lived in England as everyone called him Roy. They couldn't get their tongue around the second R at all. Things have improved diversity wise since then though !

Oh dear, I don’t like Roy.

I don’t know anyone who I think would struggle to pronounce the name but it is a concern that people might.

I think that as parents it is often a given that after the kids turn 9 or 10, you will never be cool 🤪

I like both names. I would class Rory as a pretty cool name too.

@badg3r haha!! Giving us 9 or 10 years left of being ‘cool’ is very generous!!

I'd see a Rory as having red hair (which is what it means) or at least being fair/blond whereas a Miles would always be dark to me.

That's how I'd decide. Both nice names.

I like Rory best. I do think once baby is born you are more drawn to one name or the other. We had 3 picked out for DD but as soon as I said each name out loud to her one just seemed to fit. That first week I tried calling her the other 2 names from time to time but they didnt feel right.

How funny - these are the exact 2 names we had it down to when I had my son! We went with Rory - because as you say, when we looked at him... he was a Rory!

We went with Rory. Keeping Miles on the back burner in case we have another son. Love Rory and Miles together xx
