Hi, I am looking for an Arabic girl's name - or a beautiful-sounding Arabic word - and am trying to come up with something that is related to the sea. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

I have an Arabic friend, Meriam, aka mer which means sea

LittleEntrepeneur · 09/07/2020 09:25

Oh really? Thanks @Queenoftheashes. I know the name but didn't know it meant 'sea'.

Yes, pretty eh? “La mer” is French for the sea, but I think the meaning of Meriam is more linked to the perfume myrrh and its bitter scent, there is much discussion about the meaning of the various versions of Meriam.

bridgetreilly · 09/07/2020 10:03

Meriam does not mean sea or anything close to that.

bridgetreilly · 09/07/2020 10:05

Oh, wait, I suppose 'yam' does mean sea. So it's just possible. But it's nothing to do with 'mer'.

CorianderLord · 09/07/2020 10:38

Mouna? Water

Gulpingcoffee · 09/07/2020 10:41

I think Manar means lighthouse or perhaps beacon depending on the translation. Pretty name.

Lulu means pearl.

I know a few little girls named Luluah (emphasis on the first syllable - LOO-lua)

bluebadgehelp101 · 10/07/2020 10:27

My friend's daughter is Marjan (elongated second a, so pronounced Marjaan) and it means coral. It gets so many compliments.

doubtingmustafa · 10/07/2020 10:29

Yes pearl meanings are lovely.

Savannah (the v is pronounced as an f) also means pearl in Arabic.

Dora also means large pearl

doubtingmustafa · 10/07/2020 10:30

I also know a Marjan (coral) but spelt Morgan or Morgana

Maryam is the Arabic word for Mary.

justilou1 · 15/07/2020 04:50

Miriam/Meriam means Sea of Bitterness. Wouldn’t wish that on a child.

Salsabil. Paradise spring.

I think it’s Greek but Pelagia is a sea related name I’ve heard used once. I don’t know if there’s something similar in other languages.
