Hi,

Would really appreciate some feedback on our list so far. Our surname is one syllable.

Josephine (nn Josie)
Marianne
Clara
Elizabeth
Eliza
Lyra (not timeless but we like it so including it!)

Thanks in advance

Elizabeth and Eliza are my favourites from your list. You could put Elizabeth on the birth certificate and then use Eliza as a nickname?

Poppydaisies · 07/07/2020 11:15

Marianne and Elizabeth are timeless imo.

Josephine, Eliza and Clara are rising up the charts quickly and will eventually date.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/07/2020 11:51

I would rank them:

Josephine (nn Josie) - 3
Marianne - 1
Clara - 4
Elizabeth - 2
Eliza - 5
Lyra - 6

Whatsyourflava · 07/07/2020 11:53

Marianne will be very popular because of normal people I think. I like it

Adore Elizabeth and Eliza and Clara - amazing choices

All the Josephine's I know are called Jo so there's a risk Josie doesn't stick

How about Margaret nn Maggie or Peggy
Edith nn Edie
Delilah nn Lyla

Poppydaisies · 07/07/2020 14:40

Yes, Jo is such a natural short form for Josephine! That's the most likely shortening imo.

Etinox · 07/07/2020 14:42

I was going to post Elizabeth before I saw your choices OP. It’s timeless and very flexible, with lots of diminutives.

Twizbe · 07/07/2020 14:46

I'd go for Elizabeth, but then it's my name and I think it's great.

My parents chose it because they didn't want anything dateable and there are so many shortened forms.

123Dancewithme · 07/07/2020 14:56

I love Marianne and Josephine!

Emelene · 07/07/2020 15:15

Elizabeth is beautiful and classic.
Elizabeth Lyra might be a nice combo?

victoria0132 · 07/07/2020 15:31

Thank you all, very helpful.

Elizabeth seems to be the most popular and @Emelene I really like Elizabeth Lyra Smile

The other middle name option was Elizabeth Florence?

OP posts:
Emelene · 07/07/2020 17:01

Florence is gorgeous too, although I'm biased as I have one! Grin

bridgetreilly · 07/07/2020 17:28

I like Josephine and Elizabeth best, but I slightly prefer Josie to Eliza, so that would be my pick.

M0mmyneedswine · 07/07/2020 17:37

Elizabeth is my favourite from your list

Ewanthescreamsheep · 07/07/2020 17:56

Clara isn't rising up the charts quickly - it had a surge into top 100 in 2015 (dr who effect) and has stayed pretty steady since.

Jessabean · 07/07/2020 18:12

Love your taste 👌 I have daughter who is a Josephine nn Josie (which people have been using no probs as nn so far though I also like Jo) and am considering Eliza or Elizabeth for this one if it's a girl!

I would personally suggest a longer name if you have a one syllable surname as flow is much better. All your options are lovely though obviously Josephine and Elizabeth would be my top choices! 😋

Annierose293 · 07/07/2020 18:31

I love Clara.
I also really like Rosanna, Clarissa and Caroline.

ChanklyBore · 07/07/2020 18:43

I like a longer name with a one syllable surname.

I like the way Josephine sounds but I don’t like female versions of male names as a rule. Same with names like Stephanie, Alexandra, Cecily, Cecile and Cecilia which are lovely but I wouldn’t choose them because I like a stand alone strong female name.

Elizabeth is lovely, I have to say. But Marianne is cooler!

Eleanor is another timeless name, IMO. Also, Angelica, Rosamund, Diana.

Kust · 07/07/2020 18:48

I know a 25 Yr old Josephine (Josie). It certainly hasn't dated.

Kaiisaclay · 07/07/2020 18:58

I adore Josephine

MikeUniformMike · 07/07/2020 19:15

Josephine (nn Josie) - or Joss or Jo
Marianne - timeless but I'm not keen
Clara - don't like it
Elizabeth - yes
Eliza - prefer Elizabeth
Lyra (not timeless but we like it so including it!) - No

Depends on the surname.

Tillygetsit · 07/07/2020 22:39

Marianne is my favourite. So pretty but strong.

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2020 22:52

That's a lovely list.

My favourites are Josephine and Marianne.

EuphieKat · 08/07/2020 02:01

I prefer Lara to Clara or Lyra(I’m a bit biased!). I love Elizabeth and agree it’s timeless.

supermom303 · 08/07/2020 07:44

Have you considered Pterodactyl? It's a classic for sure, but old is gold!

Etinox · 08/07/2020 10:34

it's so old fashioned though
