I can't find a name we love...

I feel as though I've read every thread, website, book etc etc etc, but I just cannot find the perfect name.

For boys, we like classic known names (possibly with a little twist) that aren't really popular. I like Alexander but that is too popular so would probably be used for a middle name. However, we have recently discussed using Xander or Sacha in the alternative. DH thinks of Sacha as sounding quite feminine though.

I want to avoid any cutesy names for a boy. We like Elliot but unsure of popularity, DH isn't in love with that and neither am I to be honest. Others I like the sound of, to give you an idea, are Edward (too popular though), Felix, Monty, Wilbur, Joseph, Jesse (a friends sister has used this though so I feel like I've pushed it aside already).

For girls, we have a similar taste to boys names on the whole. A known name but not too feminine sounding; strong and bold but still smart sounding. So, we have considered Dorothy and Clara so far but again, not at all sold. Also we have reservations about the ever growing popularity of Clara. Finding girls names the hardest. I think we are happy to go more unusual with girl names.

Surname is Carter if that helps with ideas/ the sound of the full name. Would be grateful for any views on the above names and more suggestions to help us find the ones! ⭐️

Zilpha- a good strong girls name.
You can pronounce it with a "p" sound in the middle or a "f" sound.

Blueuggboots · 02/07/2020 14:18

Sasha, whilst a diminutive of Alexander in Russian, would be recognised mainly as a girl's name in this country I think.

Edward isn't too popular! I've only met one little Edward about 10 years ago. I've worked in a school recently and there were no Edwards. I don't understand why people need names to be so unusual. How about Edgar? Hugo? Rex? I've only met one little Clara too! It's not like the schools are full of Claras.

Love Thea for a girl and Theo for a boy.
I’d say they are my favourite names! Obviously could be Theodore and Theodora, however they shortened names a beautiful in their own right.

Love your suggestion of Edward, warming to Xander.

I really like the suggestions of Dorothy, Clara, Quentin and Felix!

Edward is pretty popular- several in each school year at our school. Edmund is less trendy. But he may still end up as Ed?!

otterturk · 02/07/2020 15:58

Following with interest. Cannot find a boys name I love and I have the exact same taste as you so far.

@otterturk I'm glad I'm not on my own ☺️ I'll send you a PM x
