Any thoughts on my fav boys name?

Both me and my partner really like the name Lewin / Lewyn / Llewyn (either spelling). NN would be Lewi.

We like it because it’s got a Welsh feel to it (he is Welsh) but is easy to pronounce for our baby who’ll be growing up in England. It’s not technically Welsh (Germanic I think) although the name has very little history that I can find. The double ‘l’ spelling is from a Coen Brothers movie I think.

Anyway, long story short, it would be great to get some opinions on this name? Or if anyone has any other similar suggestions for a baby boy who will hopefully be arriving any day now (if the curries work!) :)

I like it, and prefer Lewin spelling. If you use the Ll spelling, does that not affect the pronunciation?

You’re right @BoudicasBoudoir it would be the Welsh double ‘l’ pronunciation so that spelling might cause some ‘issues’ for baby growing up in England. We’d most probably go with one of the other spellings.

I've never heard that name before but I think it's lovely
I would spell it Lewyn as lewin just looks wrong to me but obviously that's my preference.

I like it, but since your partner is Welsh, and presumably has family in Wales, I would strongly advise against using the Llewyn spelling. You may well be aware of this already, but in Welsh, "LL" is pronounced completely differently to "L". "L" in Welsh is pronounced the same as it is in English, so either of the other spellings would sound the same in English or in Welsh.

Thanks @pinknsparkly I do like the Welsh double ‘l’ pronunciation but think he would constantly be correcting people. :)

If you like Lewi as a nn why not go for Louis?

Lewin is ok, but it is making me think of generic work clothes for men. It's not making me think Welsh.

How about Vaughn? Or Luc ?

My LG has a welsh name so I'm super biased here but I'd also use the Llewyn spelling.

We live in England and people struggle with her very simple welsh name so I don't think it would make that much difference

I think it's lovely, never heard of it before. I like the middle spelling best. Wonder if the first one spelling may get confused with Lewis which is fairly common first and last one name in England? Just a thought x

Lewin is usually the modern form of the Old English name Leofwine, which meant dear friend (leof = dear, like the modern German word liebe, and win or wine = friend.)

I quite like Lewin, and Lewi as a shortening is lovely. I think adding a double Ll could make things a bit annoying for a child growing up in England, as some may attempt the Welsh "Ll" sound but most won't. Not a reason not to do so, just something to consider.

If I’m right that you’re thinking of No Country for Old Men, the characters name is Llewelyn which I think is nice too

It's a nice name. The nickname Lewi could be misinterpreted as a misspelling of Louis, just because it is quite unusual IMO. Not that that should matter to you if you like the name.

I've never heard the name before but I love it! I would go with any spelling but the 'Ll' one though - one of my DC has a 'Ll' name and I'm constantly having to correct other people's spelling of it.

Llewyn would not be pronounced Lewin, and looks a bit strange.

You could call him Louis.

Nice, and I really like the film (assuming you're thinking of Inside Llewyn Davis). I'd associate it more with that film than with Wales.

I think it’s an excellent choice. I prefer Lewis or Lewyn, I think.If the latter nn of Lewy rather than Lewi.

There is a Lewin at the school where I work. I've never taught him so don't know how he spells it. I think it's lovely.
