Struggling to shortlist the shortlist

(After previous experiences I feel like I need to ask - please don't be mean! We like all these names)

It's been a hard slog to whittle the list of boys names down, and now we've hit a brick wall - I'd be grateful to know which you prefer.

We don't want a super common name, nor one too wacky.

Middle names will be the grandads - Garry Anthony (in either order).

The (not so-)shortlist is:

Elis
Cameron
Toby
Jarvis
Nate
Zeke
Rafe
Ted
Ralf
Sid

Whilst some are typically abbreviations these are the names we'd go with officially as we prefer them to the full length versions.

Poppydaisys · 01/07/2020 12:07

I like Cameron and Zeke.

whatausername · 01/07/2020 12:21

Favourites:
Elis (is this not usually Ellis?)
Cameron
Rafe

Nice:
Toby (I'd put this in favourites if it were Tobias, i like the -ias sound better than -y)
Nate
Zeke

Dislike/too common:
Ted
Ralf
Sid
Jarvis

VerityH · 01/07/2020 12:33

@whatausername we're in wales and Elis is the welsh spelling of this boys name

Elis - it's nice but a bit bland imo
Cameron - not a huge fan
Toby - cute. DH barred me from having Toby and Jareth for the twins. Adore Tobias.
Jarvis - no.
Nate - I like, but prefer Nathaniel. Nate is tho.
Zeke- I have an Ezekiel aka Zeke so I'm bias. Love Zeke
Rafe - I want to like it more than I do. I think it's quite wishy washy when said. Like a sound not a name
Ted - no.

Ralf - no.
Sid - no

SleepingStandingUp · 01/07/2020 12:39

So I'd shortlist
Zeke / Toby
Elis
Nate

Actually the I have say Nate the less I like it so I'd cut that too.

MikeUniformMike · 01/07/2020 13:05

Elis - only if you are Welsh, otherwise spell it Ellis
Cameron - too close to David for me. Will be Cam.
Toby - fine
Jarvis - no
Nate - no
Zeke - no
Rafe - no
Ted - no
Ralf- no
Sid - no

Peachbubble · 01/07/2020 13:06

I like Toby the best

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/07/2020 13:08

Toby is nice but Toby Garry Anthony is far too Y heavy. Tobias Garry Anthony
known as Toby would be better.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/07/2020 13:09

If I had to be perfectly honest none of really go with Garry Anthony as the middle names

Maduixa · 01/07/2020 13:24

I really like Elis. That and Cameron are very nice with your middle names.

I rather like Jarvis, but it definitely gives me Iron Man (and Pulp) vibes. I feel it's a name people will have pre-formed ideas about: could be very cool or very nerdy.

Tobias and Nathaniel are two of my favourite names, so while I do really like Toby and Nate, I'm definitely thinking of them as nicknames/diminutives. (Toby also gives you three names in a row ending in -y, but you're probably not going to use them all together much.) Of course, you have to go with the form you love.

Like Zeke and am on the fence about Rafe and Ralf.

Ted and Sid feel flimsy to me as standalones, compared to the rest.

IndieRo · 01/07/2020 13:37

I like Elis, I'm biased, my son is called Ellis.

sweetnosugar · 01/07/2020 13:53

Love love Ted!
Not a huge fan of the rest.

LuckyAmy1986 · 01/07/2020 14:38

I like Toby or Zeke best out of those.

Sid and Jarvis are my least favourite.

BabyLlamaZen · 01/07/2020 15:41

Elis - like
Cameron- really like
Nate - like
Zeke - really like

Not so keen on:
Rafe
Ralf
Sid

Ted Bundy is all I think of for Ted.
Jarvis sounds odd to me.

BabyLlamaZen · 01/07/2020 15:41

Not sure about Toby.

Zombiemum07 · 01/07/2020 15:42

Elis - nice but heard a few babies called this recently so potentially popular
Cameron - don’t like, the first thing I think of is David Cameron
Toby - I wouldn’t use this as know a few dogs called Toby
Jarvis - love this, quite unique and cool without trying too hard to be different
Nate - can’t decide, sounds like a very American name to me so not keen (Depends where you live - I’m UK based)
Zeke - no, trying to hard to be different. How about Zack?
Rafe - not sure how this would be pronounced
Ted - nice but very popular amongst all the theodores
Ralf - no, but only because the first thing I think of is Ralf Harris
Sid - okay but prefer a couple of your other names

octoberfarm · 01/07/2020 15:43

I think I'd have Toby, Cameron, Zeke and Ted up there. Congratulations!

DramaAlpaca · 01/07/2020 15:46

The only two I like are Nate and Cameron. And possibly Jarvis.

Whatsyourflava · 01/07/2020 16:15

Wow you have a great list with some lovely names

Elis - love
Cameron - ok
Toby - love
Jarvis - too harsh
Nate - love
Zeke - ok
Rafe - too many R names about
Ted - quote common but really nice
Ralf - as above. Doesn't feel as special as some of your other choices as very similar to many names.
Sid - love - favourite

whatausername · 01/07/2020 16:33
@whatausername we're in wales and Elis is the welsh spelling of this boys name
Fair play! You learn something new every day. :-)

emmathedilemma · 01/07/2020 16:50

hmm, there's quite a range there!

Like:
Elis
Cameron
Ted
Ralf
Sid

OK:
Toby
Rafe

Don't like:
Jarvis
Nate
Zeke

CaffiSaliMali · 01/07/2020 19:26

Elis for me, it's lovely. I also like Ted, but prefer it as short for Edward/Edmund etc. or Theodore.

userabcname · 01/07/2020 19:35

I like Nate, Zeke and Rafe.

DoctorBambino · 02/07/2020 11:02

Elis - I like it, it's rare but familiar
Cameron - not keen too long
Toby - lovely name
Jarvis - surname to me
Nate - love it but I know a very naughty Nate 🤭
Zeke - love this name
Rafe - not my taste
Ted - if I have a son he will be Ted
Ralf - not my taste
Sid - love

bridgetreilly · 02/07/2020 17:30

Elis, Toby or Ted.
