Love the classic names and narrowed down to these 3. Any thoughts? Like Henry but bit worried it’s too posh? Like Jacob but not the nn Jake. Ahh very confusing!

George - fine
Henry - will be Hen, not too posh at all.
Jacob - not if you don't like Jake.

Pick whichever sounds best with your surname.

Poppydaisys · 30/06/2020 10:52

I know two young Henrys and both get called Hen - it's the most natural shortening.

Jacob is nice but I'm not keen on Jace/Jake.

George would be my pick.

Jacob is SO overused. Every other boy seems to be a Jacob, and I find it incredibly tedious. It’s just so middle of the road, it’s rendered totally characterless. Mind you, George and Henry are both extremely common as well these days, but at least they have a bit more oomph. Henry is used widely across all classes now, so no longer “posh”.

captainraymondholt · 30/06/2020 11:32

I like Henry best and Jacob second best. Both are lovely. I'm not keen on Jake either but I do know lots who are never called by a nn.
I'm not a fan of George personally.

Henry is always the naughty boy name. Sorry but never met one who hasn't been. The Henry in my primary school was always in the corner and everyone I have ever met since has been that child, I know 3 at my children's school and all are to put it politely absolute pickles.
Nice name but just a little warning!

Horrid Henry Wink

Thomas17 · 30/06/2020 13:20

Thanks for all the help. I suppose they may not get the nickname but better to consider it just in case.

Thinking maybe Henry Thomas or Henry George.

Henry George sounds nice. I think George is fine as a middle name.

liquoricecravings · 30/06/2020 20:54

I really love Henry and would use it if I have a boy (due in a few months and having a surprise) but sadly my DH doesn't like it. We've got George picked out as one of our top names instead. I do love a classic name.

CarolyneDavys · 30/06/2020 21:03

they might get bullied at school if you give them a dumb name

Tillygetsit · 30/06/2020 22:57

What's dumb about any of those names?Hmm
I'm a sucker for a biblical name so Jacob is my favourite but all three are great.

petermaysawthefuture · 30/06/2020 23:00

My DS is Jacob Henry. I can't stand Jake, he never gets called it but he does get called Jay which I don't mind.

Foreman, Horrid or Crackers?

Lilaclavenders · 07/03/2022 15:10

I'm not keen on any, but I'd avoid Henry as it'll get shortened to Hen 🐓, which isn't so nice.

Fivebeanchilli · 07/03/2022 15:14

I know plenty of teenagers with all those names from all different backgrounds.
Henry is my favourite (and every Henry I know is just a Henry, no nicknames).
I really like Jacob.
I'm not so keen on George but there's nothing wrong with it.
