Thoughts on...... Elsie

VintageGirl89 · 28/06/2020 15:58

Just looking for some thoughts/opinions on the name Elsie? Am concerned it might be quite old sounding next to Noah.

I'm not worried about popularity, I actually prefer top 100 names having had an uncommon name myself growing up and hating it.
Siblings are Noah and Jacob.

The other names we are considering are:
Isabella, Daisy, Poppy, Amelia, Connie, Chloe, Robyn (worried this could only be used for a Christmas baby?), Lily-Rose (people on here don't seem to like double barrel names?) and Delilah (negative biblical reference? Maybe off putting slighty).

Which would you pick? And why?

Many thanks.

I love Elsie. Also Daisy, Poppy and Connie.

Isabella, Amelia, Sofia and Chloe are imo, very similar-styled names that are totally different to the first group - and all very, very over-used.

Robyn is nice and I wouldn't associate it with Christmas. Lily-Rose less nice and Delilah I really don't like.

I think Elsie is really cute.

My favourite from the others is Daisy, that's on my list too 🌼

FlowerPig · 28/06/2020 17:22

I meant to add that I am unsure on Daisy because I'm not sure I want to name my daughter after a weed (in some weeks cases/places), although I do love the name and love it with my partners surname....suppose it just depends if I care what others think/say or go with how I feel. But it's front runner for her first name or middle name.

One of my friends made a comment that it would sound daft for a woman to be called Daisy as she ages but I don't agree x

I know a 6yo Elsie. Its a lovely name. Also a Lily in the class. Plenty of Eva/ Ava/ Isabel about too.

sweetnosugar · 28/06/2020 17:29

Love Elsie, it’s beautiful!
Connie is nice too.

Whatsyourflava · 28/06/2020 17:39

Love Elsie Sofia and Delilah. Infact love all your names and all work great with Noah

VintageGirl89 · 28/06/2020 18:01

@Whatsyourflava I'm worried Delilah would be too linked to the biblical name and tars it a little bit. What do you think? Because I had negative reactions about Jacob because he held his brothers heel or something.....

My Grandma was an Elsie and she was a miserable old bag, so no! It's so 'old lady'.

bridgetreilly · 28/06/2020 18:16

I really like Elsie. Of your other options, Connie is my preference.

eddiemairswife · 28/06/2020 19:14

Jacob stole Esau's birthright.

helia · 28/06/2020 19:37

Ubiquitous

youngestisapsycho · 28/06/2020 19:41

My Elsie is 14. The name wasn’t in the top 500 when I named her.... after Elsie Tanner!😁 Well, I had being reading an article about Coronation street and Elsie Tanner kept being mentioned and I loved the name.

Shutupyoutart · 28/06/2020 19:48

I like all of them except Robyn and delilah. Double barrel names can be lovely one of my girls has a db name. As for your question I love the name Elsie I think it's really pretty :) love both of your boys names BTW esp Noah wanted to call our son that but dh didn't like it. X

Alpacamabags · 28/06/2020 19:56

Loooove Elsie. We chose between Elsie and Ada and decided on Ada.
I'd still use the name Elsie in a heartbeat though. I think it's sweet and girly.

LesLavandes · 28/06/2020 20:35

Yes. Nice - Elsie

VintageGirl89 · 28/06/2020 21:18

Very interesting responses. Mixed bag so far!
Oh boy, why are girls names so difficult?!
Really struggling to find a girls name as much as Noah and Jacob.

Love Elsie and was considering it for DC2 before we knew he was a boy. Also love Connie.

daisypond · 28/06/2020 21:46

I think there was a thread a couple of weeks ago comparing Elsie versus Elise. Just swapping those two letters around in the middle makes a huge difference.

VintageGirl89 · 28/06/2020 22:02

Just been having a think about names and also like Heidi, Freya and Bonnie. Hmm..... just desperately trying to find "the one"!! Its killing me!!

Another name I considered is Georgia. But wasn't sure if that's been done a bit much over the years. Did think about Georgiana for a prettier feel but strikes me as a very long name then. Hmmmmm Confused So confused!

I know it's been fashionable for years now, but Elsie reminds me of my granny and makes me think of little old ladies. There are so many more attractive names.

JamieFrasersSassenach · 28/06/2020 22:06

Love Elsie!

lloe7 · 28/06/2020 22:08

I have an Elsie-Rose so mumsnet hates my name choices 😂 Elsie is lovely in my opinion (obviously) and goes lovely with Noah, I have an Oliver.

Whatsyourflava · 28/06/2020 22:14

I agree Georgiana is too long and frilly

The bible stuff with Delilah wouldn't bother me at all tbh @VintageGirl89
Bet the Jacob heel thing didnt put you off the name - who cares!
Delilah is a good choice as so many nickname options. But I love Elsie too and loads of your other choices.

AdelaideK · 28/06/2020 22:14

I don't mind Elsie but I love the name Robyn.

Elsie is definitely popular, I know 3 under 7.
