Lilith?

I really want a powerful feminist name.
I found this one yesterday.

According to the Kabbalah supposed to be Adam's original wife moulded out of clay at the same time.
Adam wanted dominance but she wanted equality. So she rebelled and left Eden out of her own free will. So the original feminist. (The good part of the name)

But the name also has bad connotations. Literally means night monster. She became a demon and the legend says steals babies?

What do you think? If you don't like it what strong names do you have?

Lilith is Frasier’s evil ex-wife in the sitcom

Yup

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/06/2020 15:43

More like Lilith, long suffering ex-wife of eternally self-obsessed man child Frasier who had a far better career than him.

Immigrantsong · 27/06/2020 15:58

What about goddesses?

Astarte
Hecate
Artemis
Demeter

Blessed be the maiden, mother and crone.

Yup!

I like her character.

Fanciedachange1 · 27/06/2020 16:13

I like Lilith, although my first thought is Fraiser!

It doesn’t to me have such strong negative connotations as a name like Lucifer (although I like that too!)

I’m also a fan of Abel though so names with religious figures/known back story wouldn’t deter me.

Immigrantsong · 27/06/2020 16:14

Also what about:

Joan (Joan D'Arc)
Manon (witch queen based on a series of books GOS)
Isidora (present from Goddess Isis)

bridgetreilly · 27/06/2020 18:09

I think of its later story as being a load of anti female bollocks often found in the bible. I say that as a Christian.

I mean you can think what you like, but Lilith isn't in the Bible at all, so there's that

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/06/2020 19:19

Well you forget something new everyday @bridgetreilly, thank you. I still think it's a load of anti female bollocks.

nosnugglesforyou · 27/06/2020 19:32

It might prejudice people against your child, even if subconsciously. The first thing I think is demon or devil. There are loads of evil Lilith’s in popular culture too

sashh · 28/06/2020 06:55

OK some more

Ada (Lovelace) invented computer programming and was in one episode in the last series of Dr Who.

Violette (Sabo) badass SEO officer in WW2.

Marie Curie

Edith Cavel

Nicola Adams - she will always be the first woman to win a gold medal in Olympic boxing

Another favorite of mine is Dolly Parton (although her middle name Rebecca might be more suitable). I don't like country music but this woman has done so much, raising money for charities, writing songs, running her own business and in particular her 'Imaginary Library' that sends out books to children at no cost to the family from birth to 5 years old.

SoftBlocks · 28/06/2020 07:01

Frazier’s ex wife. I don’t really like -‘ith’ names I think they sound odd but it’s up to you!

GrumpyHoonMain · 28/06/2020 07:02

Kali / Durga / laxmi /amba / bhavini are the names of the Hindubwarrior goddesses. These are the original Hindu Gods.

SoftBlocks · 28/06/2020 07:02

I did love Lilith on Frasier though.

nannytothequeen · 28/06/2020 07:09

I'm afraid that I thought of Frasier too. Although I'm sure that will become decreasingly relevant. How about Frida (Kahlo) or Nancy (Wake) or Simone (de Beauvoir) or even Michelle (Obama)?

LittleGwyneth · 30/06/2020 16:03

A few random super feminist names:

Gloria
Germain
Nancy
Emily
Christobel
Emmeline
Artemis
Minerva

BabyLlamaZen · 30/06/2020 19:07

I like lilith a lot more than lily. It'll probably be shortened to lil. I keep thinking of Frasier's ex wife. Grin
