Does anyone here have or know an Aurelia?
How is it pronounced and has she had issues with people spelling/saying her name?

No but I think it’s a beautiful name

HoneyWheeler · 26/06/2020 19:47

Yes I know one - I'd say Or-ay-lia but I know she is pronounced Or-ee-lia. She does get some issues but it doesn't bother her Mum, she just corrects.

HoneyWheeler · 26/06/2020 19:48

I mean I intuitively I'd say Or-ay-lia but obviously I pronounce it the way her Mum says it!!

kirkandpetal · 26/06/2020 20:02

It reminds me of the (Portuguese?) character in 'Love Actually' - the love story between her and Colin Firth.

It's a lovely name, unusual but not daft unusual. Slightly mysterious!

HarryHarry · 26/06/2020 20:04

Yes my aunt. It’s a beautiful name. I also like the French version Aurelie but it sounds like “orally” in English which I imagine would prompt a bit of sniggering in school.

HarryHarry · 26/06/2020 20:04

And it’s Or-RAY-lee-ah.

Tsarboretum · 26/06/2020 20:05

Don't know any... it makes me think of nipples Blush

HeeeeyDuggee · 26/06/2020 20:06

Ss has quite a few in his class / year and school. He says it or-ee-lia when talking about the ones in his class but I’ve heard it said or-ay-Lia too

I think it’s such a pretty name

SqidgeBum · 26/06/2020 20:07

I know one. She is about 25 now. She pronounces it Or-ah-lee-ah.

SoftBlocks · 26/06/2020 20:07

I was at school with one. She pronounced it Au-ree-lia. I didn’t know there was another way of saying it. I thought it was a fabulous name.

user5656 · 26/06/2020 20:08

I know one. She's French, about 40. Orr-ray-lee-ah

Wingingthis · 26/06/2020 20:11

My newborn is named Aurelia :)
Or-ay-Lee-ah

MinnieSquidge · 26/06/2020 20:12

I know one- aged 4. Pronounced Or-ray-lia

Whatsyourflava · 26/06/2020 20:13

It's more mainstream now so the pronunciation is far less of a problem. I only know of one Aurelia (a 2yo) and once I heard the name once I never got confused about how to say it. It is intuitive to the spelling

WashYourFins · 26/06/2020 20:14

I know an 8 year old one, Or-eel-ia, no issues that I know of in spelling/pronunciation.

AnnaSW1 · 26/06/2020 20:15

I like the sound of the name but it does make me think of boobs mainly.

Rugbycomet · 26/06/2020 20:20

I know an Or-ree-lee-ya....She’s beautiful, clever and kind.

mathanxiety · 26/06/2020 20:27

The Aurelia I know pronounces her name Au-REE-lee-a.

cola2019 · 26/06/2020 20:27

I know two one who is of 8 and one of 4 both pronounce it or -ree-lee-aa. Lovely name but it gets an awful lot of mis pronounciation. One of them I know is the second child of 4 and both her younger brothers have exceptionally short and easy to spell 3 letter names because of the frustration with spelling and pronounciation they encountered with Aurelia.

Flowerpowersy · 26/06/2020 20:28

It's neither AuREElia nor AuRAYlia.

I say Au RE lia.

JollyGiraffe12 · 26/06/2020 20:33

I lead a range of under 5’s classes and I have met several - pretty name! I pronounce it Or-ray-lee-uh unless told otherwise.

AnneBullen · 26/06/2020 20:38

I know FIVE. All about 4-5 years old. That was weird year. All pronounced Or-ray-lia.

soloula · 26/06/2020 20:41

I have a Spanish relative called aurelia. She pronounces it ow-reh-lia.

AnneBullen · 26/06/2020 20:42

Then two/three years later was the Margot year, I know several Aurelia/Margot sibsets, in case you are looking for something along similar lines!

daisypond · 26/06/2020 20:58

Or-ree-lia is the intuitive pronunciation in English . To rhyme with Amelia and Ophelia.
