Tobias or Tristan?

Baby is over 2 weeks old and has no name still. We’re down to these two names (others considered were Rowan, Robin and Julian).

Surname is hyphenated, 4 syllables in total. No middle name decided as yet.

Thoughts?

Both lovely but, depending on where you live, Tristan might be seen as a bit try-hard/OTT. I love Tristan & Ysolde though so I think it's gorgeous!

Tobias, because he can shorten it to normal-sounding'Toby' which will be necessary unless you can definitely afford private schools? Especially with a double barrelled surname,

What you need to ask yourself is do you prefer Tobes or Trist as EVERYONE shortens my Tobias to Tobes. Only teachers and the GP call him Tobias.

Depends on the surname for me personally, if it ends with an "enne" sound "An/On/En" or "Son/Ton" then Tristan could sound a bit too 'rhymey' for want of a better word

Love both Tobias and Tristan so much and much prefer them to your other previous choices (sorry I don't like them at all apart from Robin which is ok).

To pick I'd say are you bothered about popularity because Tobias/Toby is much higher up the charts. I've never met a Tristan but it's one of my favourites. Tobias also really strong though.

Also what do you think of Toby? Tobias could get shortened.

Like both. Toby/Tobias - I know quite a few. Not uncommon at all ! Tristan - still has quite ‘posh’ vibe. Less so than used to be I think. Nice name.
