Will shorten to Tom, with the middle name Joseph, surname Alwyn. He has an older brother called Edward Charles (Ted for short) and me and DH thought Ted and Tom sound like a cool combination for brothers names. What do people think? Thanks Smile

Love Ted & Tom 😍

Very popular
It’s not even in the top ten, so I wouldn’t say very popular.

It’s on its way down, yes, but it only dropped out of the top ten in 2017, having been very popular since the late 90s. The distribution of boys’ names is bunched quite heavily in the top 25 so the difference between Thomas at #12 and Leo at #6 was only about 500 births in 2018.

There are a lot of Thomases about and although OP’s might not have another in his class at school he’ll very likely meet a lot of Thomases through his lifetime and be one of several in the workplace.

Fantastic choices.

Thomas is lovely, and so is Tom. One of my DS's would have been Thomas if it weren't DH's name!

We have an Edward Thomas who we sometimes call Ted - sounds like we have similar taste OP!

I have a Thomas too, though rarely call by full name as I much prefer Tom, as does he.

That's the downside as teachers mostly call him Thomas, probably serves me right for picking a long name but wanting to use the shortened version.

My Uncle Tom, short for Thomas, was a hero in WW2, decorated for outstanding bravery. He was very handsome and a lovely gentle man, so I'd say it's a great name.

Great Name. Lovely as Tom too. Go for it.

Lovely classic name.

I’ve never met an adult Thomas who went by Thomas, it’s always Tom. They’ve all been thoroughly nice boys/men too.
