Long time lurker first time poster!
So my husband and I have a few names we like for our baby boy due next week! We just can't decide and love all the names equally!

  1. Stephen (family name)
  2. Charlie
  3. Reggie
  4. Rocco
  5. Rueben
  6. Freddy

All so different but we love them all. Please put in an order of what you think, surname is very generic (starts with an S)

Looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks

I think the problem with Rocco is that a. I cannot picture a 40 year old married man with children called Rocco and (/because) b. It’s a dogs name.

Orphlids · 20/06/2020 12:16

I think Rocco is a bit like Harper. It’s a perfectly good name, I suppose, and Madonna certainly wasn’t the first one to use it, but its popularity suddenly increased after she named her son. So whenever I hear a Rocco or a Harper, a part of me assumes they’ve been influenced by Madonna or the Beckhams. I’d be too embarrassed to admit to being so swayed by celebrity that I’d choose the same name. Also, I’ve never seen a Rocco without a big cubic zirconia earring and a partially shaved head, even thought he’s only three years old.

Charlie, Reuben , Freddie are all nice names.

Stephen isn’t to my taste and I don’t think it’s really come back yet however if it’s a family name and you like it then go for it.

Rocco and Reggie are a big no from me.

borntohula · 20/06/2020 12:27

Freddie but Stephen as a middle name then you don't have to worry about it being shortened to 'Steve.'

newmum332 · 20/06/2020 12:28

@babynamesbabyboy no personal experiences with Rocco and Reggie however Rocco to me seems very celebrity/footballers child’s name. It’s not very classic or even particularly unique. I also couldn’t imagine a Rocco over the age of about 7.
Reggie sort of the same as above but I know several dogs called Reggie too which definitely puts me off it even more.

  1. Stephen (family name). as your sir name starts with an S I'm not keen on this! But if alliteration doesnt bother you go for it
  2. Charlie- too common
  3. Reggie - too common
  4. Rocco - like a lot
  5. Rueben- I dont like this name and never have but that's personal preference
  6. Freddy- perfectly ok name

Other suggestions of a similar theme
Stanley nn Stan
Frankie nn Frank

Oh just saw your update - silly me for not noticing the second page. Nice name! Thanks for update :-)

captainraymondholt · 22/06/2020 15:02
  1. Reuben (but only if spelt like that) - far and away the nicest
  2. Charlie - it's fine, I don't love it but it's a safe nice name
  3. Freddy - ditto
  4. Stephen - unusual nowadays, I can't quite imagine a baby Stephen but it could be quite cute
  5. Reggie - just reminds me of the Krays. Too gangster.
  6. Rocco - sorry but I think this is awful. I know we're not meant to say names are chavvy but I don't know what the kind alternative is.
DoctorBambino · 22/06/2020 15:19

I would choose Stephen, never hear it for little ones and like family link.
