What do you guys think of the name Essie? It would be Essie Joy Sarah Ball. Joy and Sarah are family names so they have to be included but feel free to suggest some other first names you like!☺️

Dreadful really - maybe cute as a nickname on a little girl but not by itself

MikeUniformMike · 19/06/2020 20:03

Essie Boy drove a Ford Escort. No from me.

sibbys · 19/06/2020 20:18

Reminds me of the nail polish brand. But cute Sound

purplecorkheart · 19/06/2020 20:19

The Queen's brand of nail varnish?

OddBoots · 19/06/2020 20:21

It's a cute nickname for a range of options, lots of options listed above but Estelle and Jessica also come to mind.

Cbeebiesrehab · 19/06/2020 20:32

I know an Essie. She originally had a ‘BC name’ but her mam ended up just putting Essie on it in the end. It’s never really grown on me despite it being similar to my own daughter’s name.

LuckyFlash · 20/06/2020 10:19

I quite like it. Alternatives could be Effie or Esty (Hebrew name meaning star). I don’t agree that there has to be a ‘long version’ - go with what you like

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/06/2020 10:35

I really like it, though prefer it as a nn

We considered it as a nn for Elspeth. Also like Esther

I think Essie Sarah Joy Ball sounds better BTW, it seems to flow a bit better

SinglePringle · 20/06/2020 10:37

Another one who thought ‘nail polish’.

PurBal · 20/06/2020 10:41

Nail polish. NN for Esme?

birdling · 20/06/2020 10:48

Reminds me of the little girl in Silas Marner.
Effie, they are both cute names, but I would assume it was short for something.
Great for a little girl, but less so for a grown woman?

Blackbear19 · 20/06/2020 10:53

I'm I the only person who thought petrol Essie / Esso?

But yes I can hear the "Essie have you done your essay jokes" now.

So it's a no from me.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 20/06/2020 20:13

Doesn't sound like a name at all...

Sunflower2025 · 21/06/2020 15:58

I know a little girl called Essie, does sound cute, I know lots of little ones with cute names, Millie, Molly, Maisie ect so doesnt seem odd in these days.

Fisher1008 · 21/06/2020 19:31

I like it but would use as a nn to Esme

twilightcafe · 21/06/2020 19:33

Nail polish

timetest · 21/06/2020 19:34

I thought nail polish too. Sorry.

RiverMeadow · 21/06/2020 19:35

Reminds me of the nail polish.

GoingBackTo505 · 21/06/2020 19:37

I absolutely love it. As it is, no need for anything longer or a different name for the birth certificate, although there is an instagram influencer who uses it as a NN for Estee, which I love too.

zingally · 21/06/2020 19:47

It's pretty enough, but I'd assume it was a nickname.

ScrambledSmegs · 21/06/2020 19:50

I'd assume it was a nickname for Esther.

SuperEkstra · 21/06/2020 20:11

Essi is a Finnish name.

sugasweet · 09/10/2020 04:36

It’s perfect. I’m considering it as well. I had an elderly neighbor who had that name, and she was the most precious lady.

MercyBodle · 09/10/2020 07:56

Essie Joy Sarah sounds good I think. I'm not a big fan of nicknamey names but that is really just a matter of style and there is really nothing wrong with them. I'd much rather a timeless Essie than something super trendy and tied to a particular time such as Aria/Arya, Neveah or Hallie.

I know a teenage Essie who is actually Esther but is only ever called Essie. Essie could also be short for Esme, Estelle, Estella, Celeste.

Chottie · 09/10/2020 07:56

Nails
