With the very sad passing of Dame Vera Lynn, do you foresee a rise in the use of the name Vera Lynn.
Have to say it's really got me thinking today..... Vera Lynn does actually sound pretty nice together!
What do you all think?

Nope

Merename · 18/06/2020 23:37

Like Vera, but both together bit fan clubby, no?

123Dancewithme · 19/06/2020 00:09

I think Vera is already on the rise. I don’t think Lynn will become popular anytime soon though.

june2007 · 19/06/2020 00:11

Yes could work as a name. Not keen though.

lottiegarbanzo · 19/06/2020 00:15

No. She was amazing but Vera is just a truly ugly name. That's why it hasn't been revived, while many of its name contemporaries have.

Verity is a thousand times nicer.

GameofPhones · 19/06/2020 00:16

Makes a nice name, but I wonder if being named after someone else overshadows your own identity?

MadisonAvenue · 19/06/2020 00:24

I can’t hear the name Vera without thinking “Has anybody got any Veras? Lovely....”

WorraLiberty · 19/06/2020 00:24

No, why would it suddenly become popular? Surely it'd only be used by super fans?

I can't see it becoming the new Lily Mae

Pegaroo · 19/06/2020 08:36

Not together, that’s a bit obvious.

I remember a post ages ago of someone wanting to call a child Penny-Lane because of the Beatles....makes me go urgh, and baby Vera Lynn would as well.

StopGo · 19/06/2020 08:46

Vera Lynn = Gin in Cockney rhyming slang

daisypond · 19/06/2020 09:50

Vera is nice. I think it’s already on the rise. But not alongside Lynn.

nagynolonger · 19/06/2020 10:05

Vera seems very old fashioned to me. Similar to Edna, Mabel, etc so maybe it will become popular.

I went to school with two girls called Lynne in the 60s. I quite like it.

Vera Lynn as a name? Bit similar to calling a girl Sydney because she was born in 2000. And all the little Elizabeths from the 50s and maybe again in the 2020s.

Scruffyoak · 19/06/2020 10:09

We have Vera as a middle name but thats because it is a family name. Wouldn't use as a first name.

Isn’t it skins? Got any Vera’s?
StopGo · 19/06/2020 10:16

@SiaPR gin, chin, skin (roll up paper) 😁

"Got any veras? Lovely." (Ebeneaza Goode.)

nildesparandum · 19/06/2020 20:01

Used to be a shortened form of Veronica.Never been used for ages. But I remember when my grandma's name was very old lady, now it is everywhere.
