Good baby name?? OPINIONS NEEDED!!

I'm wondering whether to name my second child, when I have it, Anakin Fergus. My mother doesn't agree with the name but I think it is beautiful! Don't want my beautiful child to be bullied though. Thoughts?

Fergus is great.

Anakin is so intrinsically related to Star Wars that there’s no way I’d used it.

I wouldn’t as I think you’d be marking the child out as a fan of the series before he’s even seen it! Plus I think you’d get Anna as a nn which I wouldn’t be keen on. HTH.

I'd agree with your mother. I certainly wouldn't describe it as beautiful although what matters is that you like it.

Fergus Anakin would be infinitely preferable.

I did know an Anakin, who must be about 12 now. Everyone sniggered when they heard the name although they did get used to it quite quickly.
Fergus Anakin is much nicer.

Even in the movies Anakin was often called "Annie" - not great for a boy.

Fergus Anakin is MUCH better and really quite cool. FWIW, I do like both names, but I do think it would be kinder to arrange them this way. Your DS could always opt to be known by his second name in later life if he prefers. I have a number of friends who are known by their second names (it's quite common in Wales)

I have never seen any Star Wars, I saw Anakin and just thought it didn’t sound like a name. I really don’t like it.

Fergus is absolutely fine.

Genuinely, I think Anakin is the better of the two names.

Not that I’d advocate calling a child Anakin. It’s just that I think Fergus is a truly dreadful name. The one I went to school with was often called Fungus. It’s kind of in the ‘anything is better than that’ category of names for me.

My daughter (10) has an Anakin in her class (she was almost a Leia, so that would have been funny!). I’ve never come across another.

Fergus is horrific. I've never seen Star Wars si not heard of anakin but it sounds like a girls name.

I like Fergus, think it's so cute. If it were me I'd go with Fergus Anakin! But if you love it the other way, go for it.

Anakin is absolutely awful. Sorry. Don’t do that to your kid, they might hate Star Wars off their own back but naming them that will guarantee it.
Fergus isn’t great either but it’s not overly offensive.

I love Star Wars. I really love it. But I’m afraid I wouldn’t use the name Anakin. For me, it’s just a bit cring-worthy, particularly as Anakin features predominantly in the prequel films, which were undeniably shit. However, I don’t think the name would necessarily result in bullying. I went to school with a girl named Yoda, and no one ever bullied her. But she was hard as fucking nails, which might have had something to do with it.

I'm not keen on the name Fergus particularly, but at least that one is a name........
