Idris is a welsh name but it was pretty underused but might be getting more popular. It is also a Moroccan name. Most people will think Elba.

@MikeUniformMike my DH is Welsh so those connotations are stronger for us. It might remind people of Elba, but I find it weird that the previous poster seemed to be indicating that it would be odd to use it for a white child just because there's a famous black celebrity with the name 😕

@bluemoon2468, it was very underused, probably not even one Idris a decade in Wales.

It's the name of an Islamic prophet, so if I saw the name, I'd probably look at the surname before guessing the nationality, but I'd probably guess Moroccan.

Definitely confirms to me that Theodore is not the way to go for us, much as I love it. It's just way too popular!

I wouldn’t assume the most-liked names here are the most popular in real life. Just so you know, I ranked Eve low because so many babies around here are called Eve/Eva/Evie/Evelyn.

@bluemoon2468 I wasn’t meaning it to come across as judgemental or nasty- I believe that some names immediately come across with certain celebrity, class, ethnic, or social connotations.

Just as some posters said they thought Felix reminded them of cat food, the most current, famous Idris at the moment happens to be Idris Elba. You are welcome to name a white child Idris, of course you are!?! You are welcome to name it Felix or Balonz if you so wish. I was just passing comment on a baby name thread inviting comments- please don’t read anything more into it than intended
