Andie/Andy for a girl?

For the record I am not pregnant, nor planning to be. But I always loved this name for a girl, I thought it was effortlessly cool!

But DH said nope both times. I’ll always secretly wish I had chosen it but what do other people think out of interest?

I love it as a nickname. Andromeda with Andy as a nickname is one of my guiltiest pleasures. I'm not keen on it as a full name though.

Dawson’s Creek

MimiSunshine · 12/06/2020 21:13

I like Andie

In another reality I’d have used Dylan and Elliot for girls

Stripeytopgirl · 12/06/2020 21:40

@HanPanPeg never watched it!

@mimi yes! I love both of those names too!

Myneighboursnorlax · 12/06/2020 21:43

I like it short for Andrea

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 12/06/2020 21:44

Nope, sorry.

EpicDay · 12/06/2020 21:47

Love it.

I think Andie is a cool nn for Alexandre. Much nicer than Alex

ToastyCrumpet · 15/06/2020 23:54

The best short form for Alexandra is Sacha.

I like Andie as a short version of Andrea. Andie McDowell is called Anderson, I think.

Aclh13 · 16/06/2020 01:07

Love Andie its more feminine if you're going to use one of the two, also agree with above if you want to have a longer name than nn then agree that Andrea is a really nice name

DancingWithTheDevil · 16/06/2020 03:16

I quite like it, but I am a fan of "boys" names or nicknames for girls: Charley, Alex, Leigh, Bobbie etc.

iloveyoubutilovememore · 16/06/2020 14:33

Andie is great. Go for it, she'll get lots of compliments!

florascotia2 · 16/06/2020 14:41

Andie MacDowell's first name is Rosalie. Anderson is her middle name.

Am not very keen on versions of Andrew for a girl, since the name literally means 'Manly' or 'Masculine'.

Carouselfish · 16/06/2020 18:31

I like it. Grew up with 80s movies and there are so many Andie heroines! It was on my list as short for Alexandria.

Theforest · 16/06/2020 18:44

Yeah I like Andie.

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 16/06/2020 18:45

Please don't as a full name.

Both myself and a friend have unisex names (different ones) more frequently given to boys when we were born and it's a nusiance when people automatically assume you are "he" as you spend your whole time correcting them in email correspondence. On the other hand I have a male friend with a unisex name that is now linked to being female and he gets fed up with being called "Ms" all the time.

TheQueef · 16/06/2020 18:46

Andie!!!!! You Goony!
Love it.

Cbeebiesrehab · 17/06/2020 09:23

I know a little Andi. It’s never grown on me unfortunately.

Cabin · 17/06/2020 09:34

Not keen, sorry.

RJ25 · 17/06/2020 12:43

What do you think of Holland? Your husband might be more open to that and then you Could nickname her Andy/andie? X

helpasisout · 26/06/2020 00:18
