Hello,

We're thinking of making the baby Adalay Patrica Allen (common last name) if the baby is a girl but I'm not too sure, what do you guys think?

OP posts:

Really naff.

And Patrica? Or Patricia?

GeorgiaWeLoveYou · 10/06/2020 22:24

I agree with a pp, call her Adelaide Patricia.

Adelaide is a nice name.

midwestsummer · 10/06/2020 22:49

My parents carefully gave me three names. The problem is in reality people only use two and my first name and surname did not sit well together. Your dc is going to have the same issue.

FartnissEverbeans · 11/06/2020 05:05

Adalay has a nice sound but it does look a bit odd.

How about Adelie?

Notajogger · 11/06/2020 06:55

The alliteration isn't great.

Also make sure you spell Patricia correctly as pp have pointed out!

Adalay definitely sounds made up and like you weren't really sure what Adelaide was supposed to sound like.

Also as pp said, it lends itself very well to being mocked throughout childhood (had a lay etc).
Go with Adalaide.

Funtcase95 · 11/06/2020 09:18

I'm an Adele and have to tell people how to spell/say my name believe it or not, so I think she would be constantly doing the same. I'd go with Adelaide if that's the name you like, just with the traditional spelling.

ChessieFL · 11/06/2020 09:19

High on a hill stood a lonely goatherd
Adalay adalay adalay ee oo

CoalCraft · 11/06/2020 09:24

I think if I heard it spoken I'd assume the speaker was just being a bit lazy saying Adelaide and had dropped the 'D' sound

ArriettyJones · 11/06/2020 09:28

Everyone will mishear it as “Adelaide Allen”, which at least has the hard “d” sound to separate forename from surname, so I’d go with that.

HeronLanyon · 11/06/2020 10:08

chessie that property made me laugh (and about to dig out some Julie Andrews !!)

HeronLanyon · 11/06/2020 10:10

Apparently it is ‘lay ee odl, lay ee odl’. But I prefer your yodel.

LizzieAnt · 11/06/2020 10:23

I think Allen is a second middle name, not the surname?

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 11/06/2020 12:05

It's not the worst name I've seen on here but when I saw it written and immediately thought 'yodalay yodalay yodalay'....

NameChange84 · 11/06/2020 12:21

Sounds like “underlay” to me. Something that goes under a carpet!

And “had a lay“ is just setting her up for awful teasing in the teenage years.

Adalay Patrica is not a real name

Adelaide Patricia is perfectly acceptable.

looks made up. made me think of underlay.

WhatWouldDominicDo · 11/06/2020 13:06

Adalay Allen is particularly bad. But Adalay isn't really good with anything (sorry OP). Did you make it up? Or have you misheard Adelaide?

Letthemysterybe · 11/06/2020 13:11

Ariba ariba! Andele! Andele!

HeronLanyon · 11/06/2020 13:19

Speedy Gonzales ! Also vicky’s favourite Puerto Vallarta bar ! So many references in that name.

TheThingWithFeathers · 11/06/2020 13:20

Came on to say it reminds me of The Lonely Goatherd but I see I was beaten to it! Grin

FlaskMaster · 11/06/2020 13:26

I think it's quite nice, but I've only heard of it from Futurama, when it was used as a man's name. No reason it can't be unisex though really.

strawberry2017 · 11/06/2020 13:30

Sounds completely made up, not a fan of it at all. @HeronLanyon makes some good points about things kids will pick up on.

Skyla2005 · 11/06/2020 13:34

It’s really pretty name. Not keen on Patricia tho I’m guessing it’s after a gran or something x
