Can I?

I'm struggling so much with boys names. Percy has a really lovely family meaning to me and I love it. But is it due a comeback or just no?

I think it's a lovely name.
My brother and SIL called their daughter Percy, it really suits her, but I've always associated it with boys.
If you like it, go for it.

No need for foul language

JoeExoticsPrinceAlbert · 07/06/2020 11:49

It reminds me of that absolute wanker that was in the green mile.Sorry.

mamaoffourdc · 07/06/2020 11:51

I know a 3 year old Percy - very cute

JudyGemstone · 07/06/2020 13:04

If you're relatively posh you could get away with it but it's not a great name imo, bit twee sounding

Whatsyourflava · 07/06/2020 13:06

It's a great name and yes it's not only "due a comeback" it's already coming back! Over the last ten years it's jumped from number 850 in the charts to number 399.

By the way if you look back a few years on Mumsnet the forum was horrified by the names Ralph and Albert - both are now top 100 and totally mainstream

MrsBungle · 07/06/2020 13:09

Percy is such a wet name. Wet and twee.

roarfeckingroar · 07/06/2020 13:51

@JudyGemstone objectively I am a bit.

Hmm there is some support then!

To the PP who gave "alternatives", I think a little baby joystick could be cute...

Are you looking at Percival shortened to Percy?

That avoids the knob jokes in Year 8 ?

HouseOfEdwards · 07/06/2020 14:22

Support for Percy?
Jockstrap?

KatherineJaneway · 07/06/2020 14:23

Percy is a bad Weasley brother.

ClassicCola · 07/06/2020 14:23

It's bloody awful.

Dollywilde · 07/06/2020 14:28

It’s our cats name Smile I love it but we decided it was half a step too far for us hence it getting relegated onto the cat...

LoveLoveLove2020 · 07/06/2020 14:29

@CrazyTimesAreOccurring your comment made me spit my drink out! 😂😂😂

roarfeckingroar · 07/06/2020 14:34

Any suggestions of other names I might like with a lower ridicule risk ?

Albert (Bertie)

Certainly sticks with the penis theme

Monty, Perry, Alfred, Ernie, Winston?

Wowcherarestalkingme · 07/06/2020 15:09

I love the name Percy but DH didn’t like it. It does seem to be creeping back into popularity. I also think that the whole ‘point Percy at the porcelain’ thing is not a particularly mainstream saying anymore. Lots of names have connotations and many more will have them in the future which we can’t control if we have already named our child that. If it doesn’t bother you (and doesn’t bother me) name your child Percy. I do wish I’d won DH round on it but it wasn’t to be.

Alicatz66 · 07/06/2020 15:34

I keep thinking of Percy out of Blackadder.. or Percy Pig !!! ... he will get called Percy Pig at school ... don't do it

Tavannach · 07/06/2020 15:46

CoronaIsComing · 07/06/2020 15:53

I love it. I’ve lived all over the place and have never heard Percy to mean penis!

Whatsyourflava · 07/06/2020 16:00

If you like Percy (and I do too- I love it), how about Otis, Sidney (Sid), Cole, Eric
