I think it's OK, not awful, not my favourite. It has a nice meaning. Since I found out about the more common pronunciation in the rest of Europe (more like Verra or Vaira than Veera), I prefer that pronunciation. However Veera will of course be the default if you're in the UK.
(The trouble with people saying "it's as bad as Maud" or "it's a not-pretty name, like Mavis" is that some people like those names or find them pretty.
I genuinely like Mavis. Maud isn't bad. Don't like Bertha though because it makes me think of "birther"!)
