Sister for Emilia - Ella?

riromay · 05/06/2020 19:47

I'm expecting another girl (yay) and have to think of a name for her.

My oldest' name is Emilia and we're thinking to name the baby Isabella - nickname Ella. Isabella is not that popular where I live, so that's not an issue. I though Ella first, but it just seems more nickname-y to me.

Other names that we like but not love or can't use for several reasons are:

Eliza
Sienna
Alice
Ariana

Any other recommendations for names based of what we like?
💗

Thank you!

Ella does seem quite similar to Emilia - could you maybe shorten Isabella to Bella instead?

riromay · 05/06/2020 19:53

Oh no! Is it too similar? Bella is also nice, it just reminds me of my childhood dog .. 😬

I think it's quite similar too. I love Alice, one of my favourite names! Quite fond of Eliza too.

LotusClover · 05/06/2020 20:11

Emilia and Ella are definitely too similar I'm afraid. But I know several Isabellas and none of them go by Ella - it's always Izzy.

daisypond · 05/06/2020 20:12

Emilia and Ella are too similar. Isabella is nice but Bella is better as a short form.

Girlswithflowers · 05/06/2020 20:13

Way to similar- what about bel

YukoandHiro · 05/06/2020 20:18

Definitely too similar, but Bella or Bel a nice shortening

user1493494961 · 05/06/2020 22:39

I knew sisters called Isla and Ailsa so wouldn't worry about Emilia and Ella being too similar.

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 05/06/2020 22:51

My daugter was always going to be an Isabella or Izzy for short.
At birth nope a definate Phoebe.

LavenderRoseSugarBall · 05/06/2020 23:24

Sil has 3 girls: Emily, Ella and Evelyn. It's fine.

sweetnosugar · 06/06/2020 16:02

Isabella is lovely!
Not common where I live either, popularity of names is definitely regional.
Ella can easily be a nickname of Isabella.

IloveParmaViolets · 06/06/2020 16:31

Emilia & :
Beatrice nn Bea
Violet
Victoria
Anna
Felicity
Arabella
Claudia

Philippa nn Pip
Charlotte
Alice
Maria
Adeline

Thanks all! I think we'll go with Isabella (Ella) and if we feel like it's too similar we can also use the other nicknames for Isabella or the full name 😊

Emilia and Ella sound quite samey.

Could you shorten Isabella to Issy?

riromay · 08/06/2020 15:50

Yes, Issy/Izzy or Bella are also options for nicknames.

It must be my accent but Emilia and Ella doesn't sound so similar to me Confused

I've always found that same intials is a problem if you want to have stuff that just has initials on - embroidered blankets and so on. You also have to beware of post coming addressed to Miss E Riromay... which one is it for?

Just my twopennyworth.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 08/06/2020 17:59

I think it's fine!
Any official post will be miss e or miss I.

If my friend can have Eliza and ellie... then I dont see yours being a problem

SeasonFinale · 08/06/2020 18:03

Emilia and Ella do not sound similar at all. Go for it I say.

Spirali · 09/06/2020 00:00

To me it’s not so much that they sound similar, it’s more that they’re just very ‘samey’. Like if you had Amy and Amelia for another example.

Zaphodsotherhead · 09/06/2020 10:02

Sorry, I was thinking of either Ella or Eliza as the full name, not nicknames!

TinySleepThief · 09/06/2020 10:08

I think they are too similar in the sense that if you tried to shout them for dinner their names would sort of merge into one.

I have to say though I've taught lots of Isabella's and even the ones whose parents called them Ella were all either Izzys or Bellas before the end of the year. Mostly because Ella seems to be everywhere and there were often multiple Ella's in each class so being an Izzy or a Bella allowed them to stand out more easily

PetraRabbit · 10/06/2020 22:07

If you like the more popular vowelly names then maybe Ava?
If you don't mind going a bit less mainstream (but still fashionable) then Clara sounds nice with Emilia.

CrystalMaisie · 10/06/2020 22:24

I think they are too similar.
I always wonder if Ella is short for Umbrella.

GeorgiaWeLoveYou · 10/06/2020 22:35

I would personally avoid another name that ends in -a and other names that begin with E. Emilia and Ella just becomes a mouthful and are too similar.

What about:
Lily
Poppy
Chloe?
