Is the name Scarlett Mackenzie Skye (10 letter last name starting with B) to long? I feel silly even having to ask (because I know the answers will be yes), but Scarlett is my all-time favourite name and I would love her to share my middle name of Skye
but I feel like Scarlett Skye sounds strange... so I thought I could pop another middle name in there as well
Scarlett Mackenzie is so beautiful but with my long last name and Skye as well I feel like its getting too long... but what do you guys think?
Some other names I like are
Scarlett Piper Skye
Scarlett Avery Skye
Scarlett Evelyn Skye
Scarlett Molly Skye
Scarlett Elsie Skye
Scarlett Kenzie Skye
Avery Grace Skye
Riley Paige Skye
Molly Mackenzie Skye
Piper Grace Skye

I think Scarlett Mackenzie Skye Boltonston (example surname) sounds lovely, not too long x

Coffeecak3 · 04/06/2020 16:11

It's a tricky one.
I think you may have to drop Skye if you really want Scarlett. Although Scarlett Marie Skye sounds nice.
In the book Gone With The Wind the heroine is called Katie Scarlett by her father which is very pretty.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 04/06/2020 16:17

I think Scarlett Paige Skye B..... would be nice. Most of the time she would just be Scarlett B(surname). With Scarlett MacKenzie Skye, the pronounciation is slightly clunky, with a z sound going into an S. And I would be thinking of when she's older & filling out forms.
But ultimately it is your choice. Congratulations on your (soon to be here?) baby girl.

gracex4 · 04/06/2020 16:27

It really doesn't matter how long it is that's only going to be on the birthday certificate she will only be called Scarlett Or even Scarlett B at school for example no one ever knows your middle name unless they ask you? Even most forms etc u don't really write your middle name.
Have the name you want x

TheVanguardSix · 04/06/2020 16:30

Scarlett Mackenzie Skye sounds lovely! You don't need to compromise.

I have a 20 letter first and (double) middle name. It's never, ever been a problem.

Aclh13 · 05/06/2020 03:44

Either piper grace or scarlett Evelyn, I would drop the skye especially for a double S

Aclh13 · 05/06/2020 03:45

You sound like you might be American with those names so not sure how "common" the names are over there but over here skye and mackenzie are definitely stigmatised

Lalala205 · 05/06/2020 04:53

I have an 8 character first name, 7 character 2nd, 5 character 3rd, 5 letter surname. It's a twat to fit on official forms! I also feel a bit of a knob at 40 having two middle names 😳. Yes, lots of history behind them and whatnot, but still 🙄 So personally it wouldn't be my first choice, and I chose to not saddle my child with the same. However, my Dd has a friend with 4 middle names (she despises it). So I can't comment on parents personal preference.

Aclh13 · 05/06/2020 05:02

@lala205 I completely agree, more than one middle name is borderline pretentious or the entire opposite if you catch my drift. I think one is plenty, two if it flows well

MittensTheSerpent · 05/06/2020 09:26

"Scarlett! Mackenzie! Skye!" sounds like a stressed out mum shooting for her kids at a soft play. All quite harsh names.

I like Scarlett Skye on its own. I think Mackenzie ruins it a little - especially as it’s a surname, so it sort of sounds like the name should end there! Scarlett Skye is lovely

daisypond · 05/06/2020 11:51

I think it’s too long. Mackenzie doesn’t fit. I’d pick something shorter. Scarlett Molly Skye Bxxx is nicer.

emmathedilemma · 05/06/2020 13:24

I really don't like Mackenzie as a first / middle name, it's a surname to me and i know a lot of them.
Scarlett Olivia was my first thought from your title... that works ok with Skye as well.

IVflytrap · 05/06/2020 13:32

I think it's fine. She'll mostly just be Scarlett Surname in everyday life. If the middle names were both long and multi-syllable, I'd think it might be a bit much, but as Skye is short I think it's fine.

Don't agree with a pp saying either name is stigmatised. I've certainly not come across anything along those lines, Mackenzie for a girl seems a bit American, but on the other hand, JK Rowling has a Mackenzie. It's not like it's unheard of here. Skye is a bit hippy-ish but lovely in my opinion.

Yes, totally agree with this.

I really like Scarlett Skye.
