Love Victoria but hate Vicky

Is there anyway around to not letting a full name turn into a nickname. I absolutely adore Victoria and has always been on my top 5 yet I can't stand the nickname Vicky.

Could we possibly avoid Victoria turning into Vicky or is it bound to happen no matter what?

Well you could always refrain from calling her Vicky but there’s no way you can control what she gets called by her mates at school once she’s a bit older.

I know a Victoria who has never been Vicky but goes by Vic. And another who goes by Tori (which personally I’d want to avoid at all costs). I’m not sure if these were formed by friends or parents though. Could you use it as a middle name instead?

I have known Victorias called Vix, Tory or Tors - any better?

I know Victoria's only called Tor or Tori which is far nicer than Vicky

I know a Victoria who is known as Toria - so much so it wouldn't even occur to me that she could be a Vicky!

I am with you OP. All Victoria nicknames are bloody awful. However, I know a Victoria who is known as that and only that.

I think the is a good chance the name will be shortened, so if you're set on using it your only option would be to push a preferred nickname.

How do you feel about Tori or Ria?

It's such a lovely strong name, I wouldn't worry about the nickname element too much .

My Auntie Victoria has always been Victoria, on the other hand I have a friend Vicki who has always been Vicki!
I would stick to Victoria and don't allow people to shorten it, she can decide when she's at school if she wants to. My Mams name is Pamela and hates Pam! Xx

So I'm not sure about a Victoria always being called Victoria but I think you can certainly avoid Vicky if you choose another nn. My favourite is Tori

I feel the same way about Elizabeth. Love the full name, hate Liz / Lizzie, and seriously dislike Beth. Decided that you can't control the nicknames, especially as they get older, so avoided it. Picked names that can't be shortened easily instead.

Such a shame though. Victoria is a beautiful name.

I love Olivia, not keen on Liv, but that is what she calls herself. Your child will be the same, she'll call herself what she wants.

I don't think it's inevitable that the nickname Vicky would be used - look at Victoria Beckham after all these years of tabloid interest she's never been referred to as 'Vicky'.

Thinking about it, Posh Spice, doesn't really suit the name Victoria does she?

My daughter now goes as a shortened form of her middle name which I'm not keen on, unfortunately you can stop nicknames or shortenings.

I'm a Victoria but always go by Vicky. I hated Victoria as a child, it felt so long and formal and I grew up in a mix of Lisa's and Nicola's etc so I felt awkward and Vicky was easier to fit in. I actually like Victoria now but feel like a lifetime of being known as Vicky I can't reverse it now.

My dd is a Victoria we call her bix or bicci because my 7 year old cant say his V she is also called vee like chuggington it's a name of many shortenings (not sure if that's even a word) but she definitely suits (all versions) her name
