Would you still use your alternative name?

Just reading another thread got me thinking. When we had Dd four years ago She would have been Ezra if she had been a boy. However we haven't even considered it for this baby due in November.

I still like the sound of it but it suddenly became popular locally soon after she was born and that puts me off.

Would you still use your alternative name for a new baby and what was it?

If you like it and don't mind it being popular - yes.

If you like it but do mind it being popular - no.

Whatsyourflava · 28/05/2020 20:51

What are you thinking of instead of Ezra this time if you don't mind me asking

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 28/05/2020 20:58

We don't have an alternative at the moment. I am really struggling this time.

@sibbys we're not considering it at all.
I just wondered whether people would still use their own alternative names and what they were.
Thinking about the change in fashions, personal style etc

I’m pregnant with number 2 and even though I don’t yet know the sex, I haven’t considered the name I was going to use for dd1- oddly it just doesn’t feel right when it was ultimately dismissed first time round

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 28/05/2020 22:51

@OnlyFoolsnMothers
We I my had one girls name so I haven't even thought about using dismissed names for babies that are the same sex. I wonder whether I would feel similar.

DS1 would have been Jennifer
DD1( not Jennifer) would have been Daniel
DD2 (also not Jennifer) would have been Rufus
DS4 (not Rufus) would have been Dinah.
Not having any more and wouldn't call them Rufus or Dinah if I did!

PatchworkElmer · 28/05/2020 22:55

DS (3) would have probably been Ida if he was a girl. I think we’d still use it if we had a second (disclaimer: I am not pregnant).

CoffeeBeansGalore · 28/05/2020 23:05

DD1 & DD2 would have been Luke. When we had DS, he wasn't Luke.

We didn’t find out the sex and had a boy. I loved our boy name so I was secretly relieved 😅. Our girl pick was Everly . It was okay and the only name my husband I both agreed on but it wasn’t a name we loved.

Now I’m pregnant again and I doubt I’ll use Everly . I’m still not in love with it and I’m looking for new names . It’s a lovely name though .

We are not finding out the sex again and I have a boys I love and my husband likes too . Nooooo idea on a girls name though .

HarrietM87 · 29/05/2020 09:31

Ezra is mega popular where I live, so though I love the name I wouldn’t go with it personally.

We only had one name for our son (didn’t know he was a boy but lucky he was!). Having a girl this time and literally no clue. I think if I’d had a name I loved then I would use it again, unless something had changed in the meantime (like a friend naming their baby that)

babynamelover · 29/05/2020 10:38

We didn't have a boys name for #1 who was a girl.
#2 was a girl and Otis was the boys name.
I still love it but we are done 😊.
To add girls names on the list for #1 weren't considered for #2 as we decided to go for a very loose theme no one would probably ever get (both lead girl characters played against actor Michael Cera)

thunderandsunshine01 · 29/05/2020 10:47

DD nearly 8 would have been Tobias is she were a boy. We didn’t like any other boy names but had a huge selection of girls names, some of which are on the current list and some are not.
If new baby is a boy it will def be a Tobias though. I figure if I’ve loved it this long I’m probably not about to go off it any time soon!

Mumma4262 · 29/05/2020 14:18

We always said we would call DS1 a certain name but we couldn’t for one reason or another.

When we were expecting DS2, we were going to call him this name that was originally meant for our first born, but when he was born he just didn’t suit it. So neither boys got to be called our original name. (Just to point out I love our original unused boys name just as much as both of our boys actual names).

We are expecting our 3rd and if it was a boy he would have 100% been called the name that both of our other children weren’t called. But we are expecting our 1st girl and she will be called the name that either of our boys would have been called had one been a girl.

mamablondie2 · 29/05/2020 16:32

I was having this convo yesterday! I personally like fresh ideas for each baby. I’ve got two girls, the first would have been Dylan and the second Isaac but I wouldn’t use those now.

Baby 3 will be Hudson if he is a boy. Admittedly I find it harder to come up with to come up with girls names but I wouldn’t feel right using my second choices for next time, just doesn’t quite seem right. So in my case that’s Summer and Ivy off the list for good :)

doughnutmuffin · 29/05/2020 16:40

DS would have been Nina, pregnant now with DD and still really like the name and nothing else we can agree on. We have second choices and if we had another we would go with those as it's taken so long just to agree on one boys name and one girls name

Crunchymum · 29/05/2020 18:18

We had Charlotte for DC1 (sex unknown and turned out to be a boy) but didn't even have this on our shortlist for DC2 and DC3 (both girls and we knew sex in advance)

Pleasenodont · 29/05/2020 18:33

My DD would have been Seth if she was a boy and I didn’t even consider it for DS at all, six years had passed I guess and I just didn’t like it anymore.

Ezra is a lovely name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 29/05/2020 21:05

Dd1 was going to be Benjamin if she was a boy, which I didn't consider with dd2, had met a few at baby groups which put me off. We did consider Benedict though

Dd2 would of been Rufus. If there was a dc3 I think I would still consider Rufus, but not sure it would be the front runner

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 30/05/2020 20:24

Pretty even split then.
There are some lovely alternative names on this thread.
