I stumbled on the name Aster the other day. It is a type of flower (like a daisy) but it also the romanised version of the Hebrew name Esther. I also love that it has the same sound as the first female MP to take her seat in the Commons.

What do people think?

I like it! I would definitely think of the flower and assume a girl.

I also know a little girl called Asta, which I think might be Scandinavian?

I've always thought Aster is a beautiful name, brings to mind old fashioned gardens in books! I never knew what sort of flower it was, just read about them. Some names suggest certain personalities though and I think Aster needs a tall, graceful type which is why I would use it for a book character rather than a child (as I couldn't guarantee producing a tall and graceful child).
