My little coronial has arrived and we still don’t have a name.

A few weeks ago the name Apollo popped into my head. What does everyone think? Would I be mad? Is it too far out? Our surname is very common and begins with S.

It's sad a lot of people don't like it or think it requires a lot of bravery to use it on a child.

I guess it depends on where you're from but Greek names are very common where I'm from (Central America). Think Apollo, Achilles, Caesar, Ulises, etc. I even know an Aristoteles and for some reason we don't really bat an eyelid at those names but I do suppose it has a lot to do with where you're based geographically.

I think it's a great name. Unusual but not made up, most people will know how to spell it, and it feels fresh and cool. I say go for it.

Love Apollo! So story and memorable.

Strong (not story) Blush

I work in a primary school and there are currently two. One in Y4, one in EYFS. None of the kids bat an eye about it - it's just a name to them like Max or Oliver.

Apollo nickname Paul - it's fine.

It would be a shame to use Paul for such a cool name as Apollo! Love Apollo.

I wasn’t brave enough to put my foot down with DH in the end. Instead we went with a more traditional choice - Frederick. I’m still looking at him thinking is he a Freddie...

It could work on a particular type of child but if he’s quiet and low key it will be excruciating for him. You’ve no way of knowing. One of my two would have carried off an eccentric bonkers name the other really would not

Grufallosfriends · 11/06/2020 12:47

I know an Apollo in his 20s who is quite quiet and reserved. He suits it well imo. Great name.

RoseMartha · 11/06/2020 12:54

No it reminds me of a spaceship and at a push a dogs name

Charlottejbt · 12/06/2020 02:57

I like it. I hope you used it. I do think a grownup Apollo would have to be very confident snd striking to pull it off though.
