Stuck on girls names

AdvoCat · 20/05/2020 09:43

Hi everyone.

We are really struggling with girls names! Our list currently consists of Lara, Sylvie, Estelle, Imogen. What do you think of these? I like them all but not falling for any one of them in a big way.

We did also like Felicity but DH is struggling with the fact that people may call her Flick, which he doesn't like. I can see where he's coming from and has casted doubts for me too.

Based on the list, you may be able to help 1. With some feedback and 2. Possibly with some more suggestions for us to think over. Two syllable surname beginning a hard K, as in Kemble (not our surname).

We can't use Isabel, Grace, Esme, Olivia, Helen, Juliette... albeit some of those would be too popular for us.

Thx!

If I had a girl to name I'd go for one of:

Tabitha
Hazel
Iris
Cordelia
Beatrix
Penelope

From your list I like Sylvie, although would go for Sylvia. Does your DH have a favourite? What has he suggested?

LotusClover · 20/05/2020 09:58

I love Imogen from your list, it's a gorgeous name. Sylvie and Estelle are lovely too, but personally less appealing to me.

Lara I just can't get on board with, all the Lily/Lyra/Lyla/Leila/Lola/Lara names just sound the same to me now, and rather disposable (sorry if that sounds rude). I think it's a case that, even if your Lara never had a classmate with the same name, it just wouldn't feel very distinct, with all those names as popular as they are.

We have recently struck a name from our list, one that we love and is actually quite rare, but there are so many names with similar sounds/vibes popular right now, we just feel it would blend in, despite nobody really having it these days.

Felicity I love, not my style at all but would love to meet a little girl called that. I suppose Flick is a risk, but you could always push Fliss instead?

How do you feel about Saskia? I'm guessing it's a bit harsh-sounding for your style, but Saskia Kemble sounds great to me :)

AdaColeman · 20/05/2020 10:09

My favourites from your list are Imogen and Estelle.
The Felicity I know is nicknamed Fizz! I’m not keen on Lara.

Some other ideas
Hester
Aphra
Leonie
Lucinda
Dulcie

DoctorBambino · 20/05/2020 10:17

I love the name Lara it sounds sophisticated and pretty. Sylvie and Estelle I really don't like, Sylvie sounds slimey and Estelle is too harsh. Imogen I like and love nn Immy. Other names that I think fit a similar theme:

Anais
Eloise
Emilia
Delilah
Jolie
Margot
Natalia
Olivia

userabcname · 20/05/2020 10:20

Well my favourite of the names you mentioned in your OP is Felicity but fair enough if you don't like Flick. I also like Sylvie - very pretty. The others are OK, not a huge fan of Estelle.
Suggestions: Vivienne, Celeste, Serena

Whatsyourflava · 20/05/2020 10:41

I love the name Imogen and it's numbers have been declining year on year for the past 10 years so it's very underused these days.

Infact I like all your names except Estelle

@AdvoCat from your list I love Sylvie. Cute on a tot, sophisticated on a lady X

EuphieKat · 20/05/2020 19:52

I love Lara!

Chinesetakeawaay · 20/05/2020 20:28

I wouldn't describe Imogen as underused (if in England and Wales). It's was 41st most popular name in 2018.

Estelle is my favourite.

Lydia
Natalie
Noelle
Alexandra

PennyPincher64 · 20/05/2020 20:31

How about Estella?

IVflytrap · 21/05/2020 20:24

I would have thought Fliss, Flissie or Lissie would be more likely nicknames than Flick. Felicity is a good name. Out of your list I also like Lara and Sylvie.

Sally
Astrid
Antonia
Esther
Verity
Carmen
Genevieve
Coralie
Louisa

I have a Roxanna which isn't very popular.

I like Annika, Orla, Adalynne and Elianna for a girl

AdvoCat · 21/05/2020 21:22

How do you pronounce Lois? Loyss or Low-iss?

Rather like the sounds of it's simplicity..

OP posts:
IVflytrap · 21/05/2020 23:36

I pronounce it Low-iss, but I'm English. I think it has a different pronunciation in Wales (possibly more like Loyss?) It's a Greek name originally.

I really like Lois. There was one girl with that name back when I was at school, and I always thought it was stylish and a bit different.

LiviLoggs · 21/05/2020 23:49

I have always preferred Estella to Estelle - seemed a bit more traditional to me I guess. I love Imogen - I know an Imogen Rose known by Immy which is adorable and suits girly girls and tomboys!

Also love

Silkie
Winifred ( Winnie)
Winter (Winnie)
Anna (Anne-a)
Olympia
Myla
Eliah (Eli)
Seren
Savannah
Summer
Autumn
Paris
Safiya
Taya
