Thoughts on the name Jesse for a boy? It's one of the few names DH and I can agree on! I know in some regions it can be used as an insult, but we're from the South of England and I had honestly never heard of this before I started looking up the name! But it has given me pause for thought. So I thought I'd see what other people thought!

If I were to ever have another son he would be Jesse. I love it.

bellbeast · 19/05/2020 00:08

When is it used as an insult , I haven't heard of that before. I don't know any Jesses boys or girls only male American actors. Only Jessie as a girl is toy story but not a common name 👍🏽

OllyBJolly · 19/05/2020 00:22

Jesse Norman- my favourite Tory!

Wheresthebiffer2 · 19/05/2020 00:32

A family member was known as Jesse, his given name was Isaiah.

daisypond · 19/05/2020 07:46

No, not for me. A dated style of name. I would think of the insult, but that is spelled differently. It will get muddled up with the girl’s name too. I know a few Jessies.

Clawdy · 19/05/2020 08:24

Dated?! Don't think many boys have been called Jesse in the past, certainly not in the UK. It's regarded as a pretty cool name now. Love it.

Lorddenning1 · 19/05/2020 08:27

@Whatsyourflava thank you, he is 3 now and a right cheeky character, I wanted to pick a name that wasn't a common name, his last name also starts with a J, so he can only be called JJ if he wants to.
He started nursery and his best friend is a little girl called Jess Lynn, and a boy in a younger class is also called Jesse, so the name I picked isnt as unique as I thought haha, my older son is called Harry and he is the only one in his whole school, I thought there would of been a lot more Harry's than Jesses to be fair Grin

Aintlifelikethat · 19/05/2020 10:02

Love it!

babynamelover · 19/05/2020 10:04

Not a huge fan but it's okay. I knew Brother's Jesse and Marley.

Whatsyourflava · 19/05/2020 11:00

@Lorddenning1 oh wow how funny! I've spent years and year at various baby groups, schools and nursery's and never met a Jessica and only met one little boy called Jesse. I really love it. I'll be jealous if my best mate gets to use it for a little boy. Makes me think of Jesse Metcalf 🔥
Crazy there's more Jesse's than Harry's at your son's school! I bet that's the only school in the country with more Jesse's than Harry's 🤣❤️
JJ is cool too!

WreckTangle95 · 19/05/2020 11:08

Love it!!!

daisypond · 19/05/2020 11:25

It's regarded as a pretty cool name now.
By who? Definitely not cool where I am.

ClassicCola · 19/05/2020 11:29

It won't get muddled up with a girls name. Not by anyone who lives in 2020 anyway.

ClassicCola · 19/05/2020 11:31

It's a good job we don't all live where you do daisypond. Is it the 1950s you live in?

Lorddenning1 · 19/05/2020 11:38

@Whatsyourflava you can't write it can you, and I bet the other little one ends up at the same school as mine 😊

bettybyebye · 19/05/2020 11:44

Love it...if dd had been ds2 this is what she would have been called!

Helskitchen · 19/05/2020 12:16

I adore the name Jesse. Like @Whatsyourflava I too have a friend who has a little one year old Jesse and he's soooo handsome! I was considering using it myself as it's my great grandfathers name but it's now been used by my friend. Gorgeous name, I don't find it feminine at all and would definitely distinguish Jesse from Jessie/Jessica. I would go for it if I were you, timeless, handsome name ❤️

daisypond · 19/05/2020 12:28

No. Jesse is a 1990s name to me. I know two, now in their 20s. It’s out of fashion now.

Clawdy · 19/05/2020 14:00

I was a supply teacher for many years, until five years ago, taught in so many schools, and I can honestly say, I never came across a single Jesse!

pilates · 19/05/2020 14:08

The only Jesse I’ve ever known was in his 90’s and died a couple of years ago.

beautifulmonument · 20/05/2020 07:51

Yes love it

Edenember · 20/05/2020 12:09

Love it. It’s not so much used as an insult now. I would definitely use it

Jasminex1 · 20/05/2020 14:27

Also love it! It's on my name list but dp isn't keen

weepingwillow22 · 20/05/2020 14:31

I associate it with Breaking Bad, not necessarily a bad thing.

Alwaysundecided · 20/05/2020 16:52

I love this name. It would have been DS2's name but DH hated it. It does seem to be more popular with women than men, maybe because some men find it girly. I think it's a great name.
