I’d happily use Alexander but a very strong veto from DH on it. Something to do with someone he used to know, and sadly I think once a person has ruined a name for you, you’ll always connect it to them.

I have a Noah and I'm expecting another bubba, not sure of sex yet but my no 1 name for a boy is Gabriel.

He goes by both Gabriel and Gabe.

Any more suggestions? We’re still struggling. Nothing seems to be right. There’s names we both objectively like the sound of but can’t see us actually using it for our son.

DH has vetoed some of my favourite names (Alexander and Nathaniel).

So far, we have found common ground on the following but none feel like “the” name

Jude (my fav but DH isn’t completely sure, plus it seems to be getting incredibly popular).

Surprisingly DH does quite like Lysander but we have some reservations about whether we’d actually use it. We’re not sure how well it goes with our surname and worried it sounds a bit pretentious. It feels like a “brave” choice and I want DS to like his name, and I’m not sure he’d feel about something unusual. DH would be happy with Zander as a shortening for Lysander, but thinks Zander/Xander as a stand-alone name is too American. As above, he’s vetoed Alexander for personal reasons. Any other names that could reasonably be shortened to Zander/Xander?

Aww it's a shame you can't get him on board with Alexander. Mind you I can get why he doesn't want to use it if it brings up bad memories.
