Help, due in a week? Helen?

Hubby and I had agreed on Rachel Georgia, both names are meaningful too us and we like the sound of Rachel, and nn Rae. But I am due in a week and we have been having 2nd thoughts as it sounds very Jewish to us - not that this is really a big problem but we a not religious at all.

Don't really have many alternatives at the minute but but what do people think of the name HELEN?

Would probably be
Helen Zoe
Helen Heather
Helen Grace

If you like Rachel call her Rachel, what is it with MN that they pick a name and instantly change to a nn??
Rae/Ray sounds like a middle aged builder down the pub!!
Elena Grace; possibly play on Helena.

whichteaareyou · 04/05/2020 11:12

All you names sound really outdated and boring to me sorry

whichteaareyou · 04/05/2020 11:12

Georgia is lovely can you not use that as a first name?

Elllicam · 04/05/2020 11:14

I really like Helen, very classical and unusual.

Myfriendanxiety · 04/05/2020 11:17

I don’t like Helen or Rachel. Both are dated.

Georgia is lovely.

Have you thought about Elizabeth? Plenty of NN options if you wanted them, goes nicely with Louise and is less dated and more classic than Helen or Rachel.

Myfriendanxiety · 04/05/2020 11:17

Helen isn’t at all unusual- there were thousands of them in the 80’s. It just isn’t popular at the minute.

RingaRosie · 04/05/2020 11:22

I don’t think Rachel & Georgia go together that well. I like Rachel, though.
Same here, set on a name, but seeing other names I like now...
DH is set on original name, and wants his Mam’s name as a middle name.

toastofthetown · 04/05/2020 11:22

I love Helen! It sounds so refreshing compared to the popular names at the moment. Helen Zoe is really nicely balanced name and I think Helen Georgia also works.

Juno231 · 04/05/2020 11:35

How about Ellena? I loved the Georgia part of your original combo btw!
Not a fan of Helen tbh - it's my granny's name so feels old enough to me to be considered a bit frumpy yet not old enough to feel like classic making a comeback. Sorry!

Lynda07 · 04/05/2020 11:36

Helen is a lovely name, Nell for short.

Nothing wrong with Hebrew names, they are classic. Rachel is a good name.

babynamelover · 04/05/2020 11:51

I think Helen and Rachel are both dated imo.
I liked the suggestion of Elena 😊.

Ellen might work? Slightly more vintage feel but works with Louise.

toughgetsgoing · 04/05/2020 11:56

dont call your dd helen, use as a middle name. just pick an average, nice sounding name that you and your dp think is pretty . not helen.

toughgetsgoing · 04/05/2020 11:56

helena's elegant but hell, helly.. same problems with helen but its not helena not as pretty

bramblbee · 04/05/2020 11:56

Just my opinion but Helen is horrible, sorry x

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 04/05/2020 12:01

Stick with Rachel Georgia, my son has a very Jewish sounding name and were not Jewish or religious at all, no one has mentioned it

WeDontTalkAboutLove · 04/05/2020 12:02

@SWemily Every Helen I know is a paid sex worker lol

Really?! How many paid sex workers do you know?

FWIW, I think Helen is a lovely name and like Nell as a nn, too. All of the names you have picked are perfectly nice and you and your husband should go with your favourite.

MikeUniformMike · 04/05/2020 12:06

Helen is lovely. Nicer than Helena IMO.

MrsAmaro · 04/05/2020 12:07

I actually think they both flow better with Georgia first
Georgia Rachel
Georgia Helen
I went to school with a girl named Rae. She said it was common in Canada and had some Canadian connections I believe.

sanealaddin · 04/05/2020 12:28

Helen is a lovely name. Classic and strong. I like Helen Grace.

Ughmaybenot · 04/05/2020 12:33

I like Helen Grace... but I also like Georgia Rae (I know this isn’t really an option but I think it’s lovely 😂)

MysteryFrog · 04/05/2020 12:44

All Helens I’ve known have been beautiful, strong women with excellent careers!

Helen of Troy was supposedly the most beautiful woman in the world.

MysteryFrog · 04/05/2020 12:44

Meant to add that I love the name Grin

happymummy12345 · 04/05/2020 12:46

I really like it, it's also my best friends name.
(Dh and I agreed that our children's middle names would be after our closest friends. So a boy would have his friends name as his middle name, a girl would have my friends name. We have a son and he has my husbands closest friends name as his middle name. If we ever have a girl her middle name will be Helen).

GRW · 04/05/2020 12:49

Helen is due a comeback I think, and unlike Helena everyone knows how to pronounce it. Helen Grace is lovely.

JKScot4 · 04/05/2020 12:51

One of my DD is Eilidh (ay-lay) gaelic for Helen, named after my gran (gaelic speakers)
