Sterling or Steen?

Bottom choices have come down to these two that we absolutely adore yet we can't quite pick one of them and also having trouble with middle names so even considering not using any.

What do you think?
Do you think these could work as stand-alone names or any middle ideas?

Steen? Please don't do that! I immediately thought of spleen and then stain. Not great connotations!

Of your other boys' names, I like Lachlan, Campbell, Fraser. All very Scottish (I like that).

Girls names - I like only Indigo off your list.

Sterling silver. Never heard of Steen, just sounds like Steve gone wrong.

I love Luna but I’m not a big fan of how popular it is becoming and Lula only reminds me of Lula da Silva, the ex president of Brazil and I can’t really look past it as it's turned into a boy's name for me even though it's just his nickname

I would probably pronounce Stein different to Steen and whereas I will admit the the Stein spelling is slightly more aesthetically pleasing I feel the pronounciation could differ slightly. I really enjoy surnames as names, I like how they can be stand-alone names that don’t really need a middle.

Even though I am a big fan of Steen Jones and his work, I am not exactly choosing the name as a tribute to him and his art but more because I really liked the name and the vibe it gives. And tbf no one really mentioned him until I cited him as the person who inspired the name to me so I don’t really think people will so easily associate the name to the artist

Now I've seen the girl's names too, the whole list just sounds like one that a kid from the TV show '16 and pregnant' cobbled together.

Lachlan and Fraser are OK, the rest are odd.

Sterling's my fav. , with the meaning 'of high quality, pure' a good choice I think. Steen means 'stone' I believe, so meaning isn't quite as nice.

It's not an alternative spelling though. It's a completely different noun. Pronounced differently too. You didn't choose between spellings. You chose between nouns and sounds.

I was responding to the poster who said Sterling Moss was a racing driver.😀 The names are not different spellings if one name they are totally different. But Sterling still sounds like money to me😀

Stirling, and spelled that way - definitely not as in 'pounds sterling'.

Steen sounds like a sex toy for some reason, or a porn star. There's something very vomitously porny about it!

But also to answer - if those are your best options I'm SURE you'd be able to find more. Look at historical figures - engineers, lords - some amazing first names along these 'not really names at all' lines.
