what's the consensus on pronunciation, and thoughts on Minty, Minnie and Clem/Clemmie (prefer first two but don't mind any)

It’s on our list if we have a girl (chose not to find out the sex). I don’t shorten my DC’s names though so can’t comment on NN’s.

Also Clementine is a mainstream name and has been for hundreds of years. Mango and Apple just aren’t unless you’re a member of Coldplay.

Minty does make me think of the mechanic on Eastenders Grin.

Love Clementine. On my list for any future dd! I knew one growing up and thought her name was just beautiful.

Clemen-teen, as in Churchill’s wife, if you are in the UK. The Tyne pronunciation is Aus/US.
I really dislike Clem or Clemmie, though. Tina would be better than either. Or Lemon.

Clementine is lovely and I would go with clemmie for a Diminutive. It’s clemEntine not ClemIntine so Minnie and Minty don’t really work IMO

Pemba · 01/05/2020 18:27

It's no good just saying that you 'pronounce it as spelt' is it? That could be either way - Clement-tyne to rhyme with Caroline and wine (as in the famous song), or Clement -een to rhyme with Josephine and bean.

Both pronunciations are recognised in the UK. Both are nice IMO. Pretty name.

I have a niece called Clementine .. We call her clemmy or minnie ...when her brother is being mean he calls her clammy 🙈 ... I do love the name though .. I have another niece called Romilly and another called Kitty and another called ottilie (tilly) and a God daughter called Florence (florrie) big family 😂😂, I thought they were your style of name so worth a mention x

It's a lovely name - I really like it. I think Clem/Clemmie are fine for NN. I know a Clemency who is known as Clem.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 01/05/2020 20:06

I love this name! It is absolutely gorgeous. The one Clementine I know is known as Clemmie by everyone (she is in her 30s).
