really like it - what does everyone think? I've heard minnie can be a word for a girl's parts but Minna is less nicknamey and can still be Minnie which is so sweet, or Mimi?

I know a Minna. Australian woman. I like it.

AudacityOfHope · 27/04/2020 13:36

Bit close to minger!

toughgetsgoing · 27/04/2020 13:38

It is another option if she dislikes Minnie - she can be Minna which is a lot more serious , no mouse or y sound , and she can be Mia or Mimi too?

Never heard of it. I know a mila (pronounced mee-la), which I prefer.

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/04/2020 13:40

I had a relative called Minna (pronounced Minner, like Dinner). Amazing lady born in the early 1900's and had DS been a girl I would have given him the name as a middle name.

BillHadersNewWife · 27/04/2020 14:09

I like it. I also like Minerva and Elva. I know nobody asked about Elva but there you are Smile

I like it. It's different without sounding too 'out there'.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 27/04/2020 14:21

Wasn't Minna the name of the girl in HG Wells 'The Time Machine' - she was from the year 100,000+++!!

badg3r · 27/04/2020 14:25

Ad a op has said it is a fairly common Finnish name pronounced meena. In the U.K. I imagine she will have a lifetime of ´like Nina but with an M'. I really like it.

GrimmsFairytales · 27/04/2020 14:31

OP doesn't want to use the Meena like Nina pronunciation, she wants to pronounce it as Minner, like Dinner

Orphlids · 27/04/2020 14:32

I love Mimi - I wouldn’t mind being called that, I think it’s quite sexy. But something like that is probably better suited to an extrovert, and of course, there’s no way to tell if your child will be shy or not. I’m not so keen on Minnie as it doesn’t have that sexy edge, but I do quite like Minna, and the rather foreign but accessible sound.

DramaAlpaca · 27/04/2020 14:34

No, I don't like either the look or the sound of it. And it reminds me of minnows.

toughgetsgoing · 27/04/2020 14:49

Not sure might use it as a middle name instead - she's quite limited to minnie mimi sort names and Minna isn't that robust? What do you think of Raina as a middle name vs Minna ?

Redcarandthebluecarhadarace · 27/04/2020 15:48

I know a teenage Minnah, who pronounces it the way you would like to.

I really like it but it's maybe a bit unusual for me

K1mberlylauren · 27/04/2020 15:59

Minya ?

Notredamn · 27/04/2020 16:36

Sounds like 'Minnie' but in a Manchester accent.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/04/2020 16:39

Minna is the main character in the Crummy Mummy kids book.

TheySnackin · 27/04/2020 16:52

Mina is lovely. Minnie is nice. Minna/Minner sounds silly to me.

527040minutes · 27/04/2020 16:54

She'd get the mick taken out of her and called a "minger" where I live I'd think

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/04/2020 16:59

My grandmother’s name was Minna. It’s German. She was never called Minnie, she was either Minna or Min. I wanted to give it to DD as a middle name but DH vetoed it.

SionnachRua · 27/04/2020 17:35

Raina and Elva are beautiful. Minna is just a bit...meh. It's ok but nothing wow to it.

123Dancewithme · 27/04/2020 21:50

I know a Minna, and also a Minnia.

Tillygetsit · 27/04/2020 22:49

Iim not overly keen but it's a better pronunciation than Mina ( meaner)

Screenburn · 28/04/2020 00:01

I knew a Minna and she was relentlessly teased at school - “minna the binner” “minger” “minna dog’s dinner” were just a few of the horrible things I remember. I bet she remembers more. Sad

She goes by her middle name now I believe.
