Elodie

Whilst researching the name Arabella (as per previous thread), I came across Elodie.

Just wondered if you could all tell me what you think of the name and what sort of child you imagine Elodie would be?
May consider either Elodie Summer or Elodie Harper.

Thank you. X

I don't mind it but I can't read it without thinking Melody.

BillHadersNewWife · 24/04/2020 14:54

I like Eleri more. I believe it's Welsh.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/04/2020 14:55

I like it but I think it will go the way of Amelie.

What about Eleanor or Emmeline?

Whatsyourflava · 24/04/2020 14:57

@georgialondon yes I know what you mean but Elodie now far higher up the charts than the name Melody (which is going extinct)! Any girls called Melody in the next generation will likely get asked “is that Elodie?” 😀 funny how trends change

missmouse101 · 24/04/2020 15:00

I just think it sounds like the letters L O D. Not great.

PiggyPokkyFool · 24/04/2020 15:03

I have to be honest I always think of Pondweed when I hear it

emmathedilemma · 24/04/2020 15:08

I think it's pretty and probably quite uncommon. I only know one and she's of French descent.

GlassOfProsecco · 24/04/2020 15:09

It's a very Mumsnet name; seems very popular on here but IRL I feel it's a bit contrived.

whatausername · 24/04/2020 15:48

Beautiful

SultansOfSwing · 24/04/2020 18:40

It's a bit hippy-ish. I can imagine rainbow clothing and dreds

daisypond · 24/04/2020 19:13

I’m not keen. Would be OK if you’re French. But in the U.K. it’s heading into the Amelie of today - and that is not a good thing.

Flymetothestars · 24/04/2020 19:23

Oh it’s so beautiful - love the name Elodie! It’s one of the top of my list if next baby is a girl - really hope I get to use it.

Flymetothestars · 24/04/2020 19:25

I don’t really have an preconceived ideas about what kind of personality an “Elodie” would have but I find the name very gentle sounding. Lovely.

Orphlids · 24/04/2020 19:25

I think it’s nice. Very pretty. I expect it’s going to shoot up the popularity charts soon though.

Skyla2005 · 24/04/2020 19:47

Summer is my favourite girls name ever I wish I’d had it x

summersun7 · 24/04/2020 19:56

@Skyla2005 Choice is now between Summer and Elodie I think.

There have been so many lovely comments about Elodie. I'm absolutely delighted. Thank you all.

Really? It's right for a child to be bullied because of their name? Oh dear.

I think Elodie Summer is lovely. Smile

itshappened · 24/04/2020 20:01

All the elodie's I know are french or have one french parent, and are being brought up bilingual / attending french schools in the UK. I think there is something a bit naff about using such a lovely, french sounding name if you don't have any french ties.

Yester · 24/04/2020 20:01

Elodie is lovely, Much much nicer than Summer (ignore the sad twat above)

MrsJoshNavidi · 24/04/2020 20:04

Should it be Élodie?

Notredamn · 24/04/2020 20:06

I don't think it really work in English, also I'm biased because there were so many around when I was at school, it's like if suddenly Kerry became really popular in France.
