Arthur or Rupert?

Hello

After much deliberation I think DH and I have narrowed our boys list to Arthur or Rupert. We like both these names.

My concerns are:

  1. Arthur is suddenly super popular - he will be one of many Arthurs in his class; and
  2. Rupert is persevered by some as pretentious. I am aware of the army slang term.

Really welcome your thoughts. We did have Albert (Albie) on the list but think Albert is maybe just a bit too out there for us.

Thanks

One of my cats is called Rupert, so I clearly love that name, Arthur is lovely as well, you can’t go wrong with either imo.

Thanks everyone! I think you can check to see how popular names are in your area so I might do that. We are Surrey/south London. This is my first dc so not really sure how popular Arthur would be here but I have heard it a few times in the local parks.

I think Rupert is now our favourite based on your comments.

Albert is the best, nn Albie.

But they are all very wet fish names (sorry). Not my cup of tea.

I love both Arthur and Rupert
I don’t think of Albert as “out there” at all by the way
Arthur is getting more popular but I’ve not actually met one

Rupert is lovely! That would be my choice. All your names are fab so go with what feels right. Good luck.

I prefer Rupert. It has more individuality. I don’t dislike Arthur or Albert, though, but they are part of a certain trend of names.

Arthur.

Thanks all. I think Rupert is now our favourite but we have a couple of months to decide for sure.
