Douglas and Ralph are marginally better than the other two. Which are awful.
In order of awfulness:

1. Sonny
2. Jesse
3. Douglas
4. Ralph

I really like them all ims! Sonny would be my favourite but I think they're all lovely. Ralph is increasing in popularity in my area so for that reason, I would put it last, but of course if you don't mind the popularity then it's a gorgeous name. Douglas nn Dougie is just adorable and also strong for an adult.

Doug & Ralph are great (tho are you pronouncing Ralph with long aaa and L or more like Rafe? I like either tbh)

Other two - not sure tbh.

Douglas - great
Sonny - prefer Sunny. Both are nicknames.

Ralph - Rafe or Ralf pronunciation, and a lifetime of it. Just No.
Jesse - A big jessie is an insult, so it's a straight No.

Sunny could be a nn for Sunday. I know one. He's a man, but the name seems quite feminine.

That only leaves Douglas.

Jesse - love this. Wanted it for my ds but turned out me and dh had very different styles. He wanted Lucian.
Ralph - I like Ralph. Great name. I do like Rafe too (raphael) if you're in and around the sound but not decided.

Jesse equally so.

I don’t dislike Ralph but it’s somewhat meh.
I don’t care for Douglas, old fashioned but not in a Harry or Arthur kinda way.

But at the end of the day it’s not my choice.

I'm really interested to see the order as I had my own preferences and wondered if they'd be reflected. They aren't! Second DC and I'm much more relaxed about names this time, getting four or five I like for each gender and seeing how the dust settles with DP's choices and others'.
Thanks for input all. I did love the 50s comment as that is sort of what I'm aiming at! Doug and Jesse are my favourites. Not in Scotland so insult-wise not a problem.

Jesse is my favourite and Sonny second favourite! I actually really love all of them except Doug. Sounds a bit like Dung or something you’d find in a swamp. Also “I DUG up the garden”. Sounds like a verb.
Ralph is cool but getting v popular.
