Struggling for both girls and boys!

Baby is due in about two months and it's our first. What do you think of name possibilities? Any others you would add to the list?

BOYS:
-Guy
-Francis
-Jonah
-Nathaniel
-Sebastian
-Alexander

GIRLS:
-Ada (this is a family name which I love, but worried about the popularity/similarity to Ava, etc.)

  • Clementine
-Iona -Hallie -Wallis -Phoebe -Francesca -Josephine

Each will probably have two middle names as well. For a boy, one middle name is likely to be John. For a girl, Jane.

Thanks!

From your boys list I like Nathaniel.
From your girls I prefer phoebe.

GemSmith738 · 20/04/2020 16:05

I think Sebastian John and Phoebe Jane

Spied · 20/04/2020 16:08

Sebastian John or Alexander John

I don't like any of the girls names sorry.
How about
Genevieve Ada Jane ?

SiblingStruggle · 20/04/2020 16:17

@Spied no, hate Genevieve, sorry! I want something that's not too popular but not too old fashioned either. It's a difficult balance to strike!

I know a few Adas - it has become quite popular.

I love Clementine and Hallie (reminds me of the parent Trap).
Do not like Wallis

I like Nathaniel and Sebastian.

Whatsyourflava · 20/04/2020 16:27

I HATE Genevieve too! One of my worst names 🤣 funny as lots of people love it!

BOYS:
-Guy - not keen
-Francis - ok
-Jonah - nice
-Nathaniel - love (favourite)
-Sebastian - love (favourite)

Whatsyourflava · 20/04/2020 16:29

-Ada - I like it but sounds like you’re unsure

  • Clementine - love (favourite)
-Iona - ok -Hallie - no- downmarket -Wallis - no- sounds masculine to me -Phoebe - love -Francesca - dislike as all the ones I know have nn Franny (which sounds too much like Fanny), but it’s popular on here -Josephine - ok

I like Guy and Josephine

LarkDescending · 20/04/2020 17:58

I like:

Guy, Sebastian, Alexander

Phoebe, Francesca, Josephine

Suggestions: Giles, Felicity.

I really dislike Wallis in particular, sorry!

daisypond · 20/04/2020 18:05

I like your boys’ names, except Jonah, which sticks out like a sore thumb in your list. It’s very different to the other names, and as it’s an actual word in the dictionary, make sure you know what it means. Guy is my favourite, I think.

For girls, I like Josephine most. Phoebe and Francesca are nice. Also Clementine - but you’ll get pronunciation issues. Wallis is too much Mrs Simpson for me. Iona is OK. Not keen on Hallie, but it’s not awful.

SiblingStruggle · 20/04/2020 18:12

Thanks, everyone. Lots to think about!

Seems like Sebastian and Nathaniel are the favourites for the boys, and Clementine (which we would pronounce Clemen-teen, not -tyne) or Phoebe for a girl.

I like Guy, but I think as my husband and I both have long names it might stick out a bit. Wallis seems to be the most unpopular. Agreed it's a bit controversial but it's a family name so it's on the list (albeit pretty low down!)

From your boys I like Nathaniel, Alexander and Guy.

From your girls Francesca and Josephine

Blursula · 20/04/2020 19:47

I like Jonah the most from your list - it’s top of our current shortlist and its bad luck associations don’t bother me (but each to their own obviously!) however I don’t think it goes with mn John.

Ada is lovely and I also like Hallie.

Sleepyquest · 20/04/2020 20:13

@Whatsyourflava how would you pronounce Clementine?
