Sadie?

User1704 · 17/04/2020 21:56

I posted a couple weeks ago asking for help with old lady names. My little girl made an early appearance and still has no name. I think Sadie is my favourite but still not 100%

What do people think of Sadie? After honest opinions either way. Just want to know what people think of the name.

I can tell my mam doesn’t like it but is being polite and keeping her mouth shut. In laws don’t like it and keep sending different names.
I know it doesn’t matter what other people think I’m just not confident myself

OP posts:

Love it. Congratulations. My gran was a Sarah known as Sadie. I love an old woman name myself!

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 17/04/2020 22:48

I’ve got one. It always gets positive reactions. It’s the Hebrew version of Sarah. Underused so there aren’t loads about but not outlandish or “made-up” sounding.

TotesGodsWill · 17/04/2020 22:50

I really like it

ladybird69 · 17/04/2020 22:51

I love it, it’s my name 😁. It’s the Irish form of Sarah ‘princess’. It’s really underused I’ve only met one other Sadie in my life.
Congratulations on your new baby girl @User1704 💐

I love it! Sounds warm and friendly, yet also elegant and classy!!

Nestlyn · 17/04/2020 22:54

Lovely

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 17/04/2020 22:57

I thought it was the Scottish version of “sarah” and it was an name in scotland until it fell out of favour.

I love it. It’s pretty. And I know a lovely little Sadie

puds11 · 17/04/2020 22:58

@User1704 you say mam, are you from north east England? Just asking because I am and there used to be an ad that ran there for ‘Sadie the bra lady’ that’s what the name reminds me of and may do other northerners. It’s a lovely name but you may get someone mention the bra lady Grin

Astronica · 17/04/2020 23:13

I'm not keen on it though I see it as perfectly usable. Just seems rather dull and insubstantial to me. Without the sweetness of some names of this style such as Maisie and Maggie which I do like. No rational way to explain I guess other than it just doesn't appeal.

CarpeVitam · 17/04/2020 23:13

Congratulations OP, it's a beautiful name 😊 xx

User1704 · 17/04/2020 23:17

Yes I’m from the north east and Sadie the bra lady was my in-laws reaction! Haha

Thankyou everyone I’m surprised it’s had such a positive reaction Flowers

pinkpinecone · 18/04/2020 11:11

Really like it!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/04/2020 11:12

Love it.

bridgetreilly · 18/04/2020 11:31

It's lovely. I wouldn't say it's an old lady name, though. Maybe middle aged? People in their 40s and 50s are more likely to be Sadie than those in their 70s and 80s, I think.

But a little baby Sadie would be perfect.

Shmithecat2 · 18/04/2020 11:38

Love it

WendyDarling888 · 18/04/2020 12:49

I love it OP.

It has always been a very horsey name for me Wink . In lots of childrens' books, I have found the horserider is often named Sadie. But, obviously this isn't a reason not to use the name...your DD may in fact love horses, or actually may not.

TenThousandSpoons · 18/04/2020 21:22

Love it! Congratulations Smile

pilates · 18/04/2020 21:26

I like it

SE13Mummy · 19/04/2020 00:03

Congratulations! Sadie is a fabulous, sassy name and isn't overused so is a brilliant choice.

IVflytrap · 19/04/2020 00:30

I really love it.

Congratulations Smile

alexdgr8 · 19/04/2020 00:37

well i dont care for it.
it just looks sad to me, and sounds rather hard.
i dont agree that its a middle-aged name, i've never come across one under 74.

PotterHarryWitch · 19/04/2020 00:38

I know 3 people called Sadie and love it. Congratulations x

myrtleWilson · 19/04/2020 22:00

@User1704 we live in the NE and have a 17yr old Sadie - never had the bra lady reference made to her. it is a very cool name but I'm biased! Congratulations!
